Re: Shipping Questions

Well, you look up customs in your phone book, it's a gov't agency so if you have a gov't section in your book start there. Your local post office should also be able to give you the number for customs as well.
Depending on how it was shipped, it might not even be there yet. Shipping via ground overseas can often take 6 to 10 weeks. I never ship ground overseas, the only benefit to it is it's price, but having a guitar sit on a boat for that long in docks, in transit etc, just doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Re: Shipping Questions

When I have had stuff form the States to the UK, and there has been a customs charge to pay it has gone to the local sorting office, and I have had a card through the door. I don't know how that works for guitars though.

Re: Shipping Questions

It could well be held up by customs. They do check stuff now and again, which is arse. If you have a tracking number put it into the shipping companies website.

If it wasn't sent week delivery etc then it'll be on a boat as Jeremy said, which takes aaaaaaaaaages.

1)Did you fill out the vaue on the form? Last time i had a guitar shipped from the US to the UK it was "valued" at 200$ just so they wouldn't cripple me with import tax. Always undervalue guitars

2)Did you send it Fed-Ex or regular post? Fed-ex pays the import charge and then bills the recipient for it so that you get the item fast.

Re: Shipping Questions

As stated previously if you have a tracking number put that in the carriers web site to see where it is. I know Fed-Ex and DHL allow you to track an item on line. When I imported from Rich the carrier actually contacted me here in the UK when the guitar landed. You will be subject to import and duty of approx. 22% of the value. Undervaluing a guitar imported from the US could be a little tricky since you would also be undervaluing it for insurance purposes!! It is a risk if you paid a lot of dollars!!
