Should I buy a JEM?

Hey guys.

I'm Andy and I'm 16 btw.

I'm just asking, in your opinion do you think that I should buy a JEM (in other words, do you think I am worthy enough? ).

I've always loved Steve's music and I'm into all kinds of music, rock mostly though.

I've been playing for just over two years and I currently own a Jackson JS30 and I will soon be acquiring a Ashdown Fallen angel Halfstack. I also own a JD Wah, Digitech Whammy, and a Dano Tremolo and Phaser.

Erm, I'm a pretty proficient player for my age and ability (I can sweep and do loadsa little tricks and stuff) and I'm starting my second ever band in the next few weeks (it's going to be RATM/Primus style thing but with a little more blues and funk thrown in)

So, do you think I should get a JEM? I'm currently eyeing up the 7VWH (waaay too expensive), the 7DBK (a little cheaper and attainable but still waaay expensive) and the 555WH (I know, I know, not a proper JEM but it is halfway there ). Oooo, does anyone know where I can get second hand JEMs for cheap (in the UK) or where the best place is to buy them?

Thanks for any help.

Andy!

Hi Andy,
Sounds like you have some nice gear. I would definitely say you're ready for a JEM. Go for it, man. You've never look back.

Best guitars made IMHO.

... and no 555. Better get an RG5xx instead of that.

... and no. Last I read, the UK has no cheap JEMs.

No one has to earn the right to buy a particular guitar. This isn't some elite club that you have to qualify for! If you like them, and can afford it; buy one. Better yet, buy two. I did. Both from Rich.

Got the money? Buy the guitar.

I would go for the rational option for my first guitar. The RG3120 offers the best value in used Ibanez guitars. You can find a used one in the US for U$S600 in great condition.

But If you got plenty of money, then go for a Jem. Hell, go for a Jem10.

good advice, you'll get a much better guitar for your money that way.

And yes, you are worthy of a Jem

Thing is, If I buy from the states, there is still import tax and VAT on the guitar

If there wasn't then I would consider a 7DBK :drools: or even a 7VWH :drools more:

if the budget is tight- i too would recommend a used RG5XX (570 is most like a Jem - or a 550 if you want a maple neck).
if you can get a chance to play any Japanese RG series guitars- those are close to a Jem- a Jem is like an RG on stereoids!!
i play a DBK and it is sooo smooth! i really enjoy playing my RG570 - there are differences, but the guitars are close relatives so chances are good if you like (LOVE) one you'll like (LOVE) the other. BEWARE!! Jems are an addiction!!
Good luck!!

true, but because of the pricing policy you'll still end up saving money. Guitars often cost the same in £ as in $. Because of the exchange rate you can still end up spending £100 in charges and be paying less.

I've done it twice.

So how much did the shipping come to, according to my calculations the 7DBK comes close to a grand.

If you've got msn, add me, my email is: andydylag [at] hotmail [.] com
