Re: Should Ibanez Follow The Competition And Fit Sustainers?

I'd love to see ibanez put out some guitars with sustainers, like a 1570, and of course the Jem.

If you want one that badly i'm sure you'll find a way, but it would be cool if Ibanez could offer it as an option. Be cool if they could offer a lot of other stuff as optional as well.
Yeah, but it's a neck-through. Remarkable idea for an LP.

If they came out with an Epi version, I would be all over it.

Watch the G3 in Denver DVD, when Vai/Satch are having a jam solo at the end Vai uses the sustainer A LOT (some say too much!)

Or watch the "Live at the Astoria" DVD and listen to the song "Whispering a Prayer". A different example (not Vai) is "Respect the Wind" from Van Halen (on the Twister Soundtrack).

André

If you mean are they powered, then yes, they run off a standard 9volt battery. The power is needed to power the 'driver' unit itself (which provides the electro-magnetic field that 'vibrates' the strings)and the necessary circuitry involved.

I just added this bit because I forgot about it. The 'Neal Schon' signature Les Paul with the Sustainer and a Floyd (i agree that the Floyd looks out of place on an LP too) is not a 'Neck-Through' design as someone stated. It's a normal Gibson 'glued-in' neck joint that's had most of the heel chamfered away for better access. I think Gibson should use that idea on more of their guitars. It looks like it would make a hell of a difference to the playability up the top of the neck.

If they ever do, which they wont, they should out the single coil sized sustainer.

Re: Should Ibanez Follow The Competition And Fit Sustainers?

I think they should simply offer it as an option, if you are willing to pay the extra to have it from the factory (as no doubt many would, even if it was expensive) then they would only make money by doing it...

Re: Should Ibanez Follow The Competition And Fit Sustainers?

Hi guys. I have a Jem 7VWH which I bought stock new for £1,500. I then ordered a "Sustainiac" sustainer unit from Maniac Music in the US for £219 and paid my local guitar tech £250 to fit it. If you ring Mainiac in the US you get to speak to the guy who designed it and he is so helpful. The Sustainiac unit in my opinion is better than the Fernandes one, the circuit board is a lot smaller so not so much routing of the body and it has a mix mode too. If you wnat one go for it guys. These things take some getting used too, lots of palm muting needed as this thing rings for days. Good luck.
