So...Tell Me About The Ibanez Jem VSK

okay everyone, so...i obviousley want to know all there is to know about the vsk. i already made a thread for the comparison of the vdy and lng, and now im curious about the vsk. i cant find much info on it, and i found one i probably will buy for cheap, i know they're rare.

where does the vsk stand in the spectrum or rarity among jems and uv's? and whats the average going rate for them in good condition nowadays?
thanks in advance for helping me expand my knowledge on these awesome axes everyone

I believe that the VSK is even more rare than the VDY. I think I remember someone making sure I knew that the VSK was produced for only one year. Other than the rarity, I believe that the specs are identical to the VDY, minus the color scheme obviously. If you have the means and the wherewithal, I would suggest you add it to your collection. It really is a beautiful work of art.

Re: So...Tell Me About The Ibanez Jem VSK

Basically, it's the same as the VDY but with a pink body (with black claw), pink inlays, black logo and yellow knobs. Like the VDY (and PBK), it has a wizard neck. They are the rarist JEMs as they weren't actually released officially by Ibanez because of problems with the paint, which is why the SK model was withdrawn also. I read somewhere (cannot find reference) that there were only 20 actually shipped to USA. As soon as that first batch left the factory, they ceased production and the units that were in the middle of construction, were put into storage for couple of years before being sold to a mail order company. This final batch was then distributed around the world. I've also read various comments that range between 100 and 300 that were made in total, but again with how scarce they are I'd lean more towards the 100 mark.

Value wise, it's a bit of a minefield. It's certainly a love/hate model, which will affect the value somewhat. Aesthetically, it's the pink vine that does it for me. Although it wasn't "officially released" it is still recognised by Ibanez, so there is merit in that respect. I think there was only one (European?) Ibanez catalogue in which it there was a picture, but no info. It's never really been a JEM that's been traded, only 5 (possibly 6 including the road-flare refin) on the bay in the last 3 years.

The thread you seek is here, which has some more info and stats on it: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f15/je...on-106466.html

Re: So...Tell Me About The Ibanez Jem VSK

_ The VSK was only produced during 1989; check that on the serial number plate of the one you are thinking to buy to asure you not being scamed;
_ Never appeared on any Ibanez catalog; just was named instead as another finish for the 777v(dy or sk) model. Check that here: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1989/jem.jpg
_ Price on 1989 was 1500 usd; http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/...89/Jun/p01.jpg
_ The last batch was sold by EMS during 1990-91 overseas; When you asked for a 777SK to buy they used to send you a 777VSK instead; At least a pair of VSK sold here in Spain during that period where done in that way.
_ The pink colour used to fade when if guitar was exposed to direct sun, but in some cases it happened expontaneously. Check the colour fade unscrewing the plate. Then compare the colour protected from light under the plate from the adyacent light-exposed colour; Faded colour is clearer, salmonish and in worst cases orangy.
_ If you have found a non-faded mint VSK JUMP on it! Rare model + the best guitar neck ever made by any manufacturer. One of the best axes ever. Word.

Re: So...Tell Me About The Ibanez Jem VSK

Good advice with the serial number!

The fact priced in a catalog is still an advert, no matter how obscure

Close, it was AMS - from "JEM Fossil Unearthed - Overseas JEM777VSK found!" at: http://static.keebali.com/jemsite.com/news/index.htm
I've also heard that they supplied VSKs for SK orders, which was neat I guess considering the VSK was $100 more than the SK, if you were happy to get a VSK instead of the SK that is.

This is also a good idea about checking under the plate. But don't do this with the neck plate when the strings are under tension - obviously Still, it is a good place to check as you'll be able to verify the neck pocket / heel stamps at the same time. You could also check under the trem / truss rod cover or pick guard to verify.

I'll also agree that you should jump on it if everything checks out. And show us pics!
