Some people just dont get it !!

There is a hot topic right now on Harmony Central about which guitar to pick, the JEM vwh or the Ernie Ball, music man, Luke and I couldnt beleive the results, the Luke won hands down!!! WTF! The Luke had 13 votes and the VWH had 5. The biggest gripe that everyone had was the monkey grip and the trem. One person said he hates the gold hardware. Thats one of the biggest things I like about it. Well, to each his own. I know I will be happy.

They're both great guitars. Given the choice, i'd probably pick the Luke as well, based on specs and appearance and what i've seen of EB/MM fit and finish.

EBMM has some very nice fret finishing, but there's just something about the neck profiles that just isn't for me. The trems are "OK", but they sure aint a Lo Pro

if we could only some how marry the two, it just might be the perfect guitar!

I love EBMM... I think I'd take a Jemvwh only cause it plays great, looks great, feels great and sounds great. I'm not a fan of the gold hardware though.

EBMM... well what can I say? I think their guitars are some of the best built and nice looking guitars around. There is nothing bad I could say about their guitars. The trems are awesome for what they were built for. They aren't a lo pro by any means. But for a vintage tone and feel to your trem, they are the best IMHO.

I think I'd just have to own more than one guitar! You CAN'T just pick one!

It was my opinion in the past that the monkey grip was by far the most retarded thing I had ever seen on a guitar. It used to look like a part of the guitar was just "missing."
Now I look at my guitars, and I'm PISSED that my strat and my UVMC don't have monkey grips. They're the most beautiful things in the world, and make picking the guitar up so easy... one practical purpose, and of course a spiffy cosmetic thing.
It's all a matter of getting used to I think. People just have to allow themselves to not be pissed off and negative before they can accept the strange yet sexually satisfying look and playing of the Jem.
Dear Lord.

Heh. The monkey grip and lion's claw have got to be the least redeeming "features" of the JEMs for me.

I pick up my guitars by their necks every time. And the claw serves no function at all.

I know most of you guys really dig the flash of the JEMs, and that's okay. I don't.

I don't really either. They look pretty cool on their own.....but it kinda looks stupid on me....esp. the VWH.

If I had to pick a Jem it would definitely be the Jem10th.

Of all the Jems, I think the PMC, DNA and VWH are by far the best. I like the GMC as well... however i haven't owned a root beer or BSB, so I can't say, but I really like the looks of both! Personally the Jem10 and some of the more blah jems are the worst. The Jem10 is just oo much for me... its over done with flash IMHO.

Remember that the harmony central vote was decided by 18 persons. If you pick 18 different persons, you would get a different result.
I wouldn't read much into it.

It's all about demographics as Salem said, you ask 18 of us here and most likely 95% or so would go for the JEM, with Darren standing on his own in the corner

You ask 20 people on an EB board and there'll be 95% of those people fighting for room in Darren's corner

The Luke is a great guitar, it has a very "interesting" neck profile which works for Luke himself, and sorry guys but is anyone here gonna argue any guitar points with Steve Lukather? No? Didn't think so
I'll admit I preferred the Floyd Rose ocer the MM vintage trem, but I adore the "Luke Blue" colour especially with a matching headstock.

I always feel that when you're into these sorts of levels of guitars it's all about personal choice, there's no "better or best", you just have to pick the right tool for the job at hand

BTW if you do a search on Harmony Central for "JEM" you will discover a very recent "price vs. playability/ overall quality" discussion about guitars in general where people compare JEMs to Squire Strats. That´s why I go there only once in a year or so...

18 votes qualifies as a 'hot topic'?

Interestingly, The guy I record with and I are both in our 40's and I've got the Jem 777DY and he's got the EB/MM. We use either depending on the tune we're currently recording. They are both great guitars. I think the Jem offers more sounds, but that's why I bought it, right?
I personally think the neon colors will become highly sought after in time -no other guitar is like a Jem!
