Steve's Floral with the synth pickup

My apologies if this belongs in the "Suggestions to Ibanez" forum, but I notice from the "Inside Real Illusions" feature on vai.com that Steve is using a LOT of guitar synth. Ibanez already have what it takes to put a synth pickup in an RG-style guitar, and everyone seems to try to copy everything Steve does, so do you guys think there's a chance of a hex-equipped Jem hitting the market? I was thinking something along the lines of an FP, but with a graphic consisting of the Real Illusions lotus blossoms instead. Hehehe.

If nothing else, I'm sure this album will lead to a spike in sales of Roland guitar synth pickups...

Re: Steve's Floral with the synth pickup

that jem shouldn't come from the factory equipped with the gk pick up,because Steve has the gk affixed to he body.and there were also plans to release the ultra jem some years ago(equipped with the gk p.u.)...
I wonder if will put a roland p.u. on evo or not on the R.I. tour.

It would be awesome to see Steve play an FP live

Re: Steve's Floral with the synth pickup

I was wondering the same thing.... I recently got a Roland GR-33, but decided against the Roland External pick up and went with a Brian Moore 1.13. The Brian Moore has far superior tracking to the 'mounted' pick ups. I am surprised as well that Ibanez does not have a midi ready guitar, especially since Steve is well known to use MIDI guitar.

Ibanez is too cheap to give you locking studs, let alone a Roland synth.

I'd rather get a Roland Ready Fender Strat honestly...

Actually, Ibanez has had a production Prestige model with Roland 13 pin out since Namm 2000. They sold the RG 420 GK until Namm 2004 when they replaced that with the RG 1520 GK which features the Peizo's installed in the Double Edge for GK use, (the RG 420 GK utilized the GK2A mag/hex pickup and an Edge Pro). The current Retail is $1050 with included case. I own both of these along with the Ibanez IMG 2010 24 pin Roland Ready Controller from 1987. The RG 1520 GK is probably the best Midi controller on the market,(I use it with the Roland GI-20 GK-Midi Interface). I prefer the RG 420 GK for use with my Roland Virtual Guitar systems, (VG-88, VGA-7) as the peizo's on the RG 1520 GK seem to present acoustic artifacts into the guitar tone, (I understand Steve uses the GK2A internal pickup also).

Re: Steve's Floral with the synth pickup

I can't believe they don't have a double edge with MIDI/synth AND the piezo output. How hard is it to make a dual-use pickup system?

Re: Steve's Floral with the synth pickup

I love the look of this RG with the GK pickup installed and a Sustainer too!!!

It's one of those 'Ikebe-Gakki' ones that I think they modify themselves.
Nice though. Gotta' love all those little switches and stuff, lol.
