Strange UV serial number

Hey!

I just bought an Ibanez Universe (UV7BK, which looks great despite other opinions). According to the seller it's a very early model (he also said it has paf pro, which seems even stranger, but not likely on a 7) and on the neck joint plate there's the very odd number: 259275.

Does anyone know what that's about? Is that even the serial and if so, what year was it made? If not so, where's the real serial number?

Thanks! (I hope this forum is active. Jemsite's great!)

/Niklas

It seems it's not that old. My own UV7BK is a first year model. It's got an Edge trem instead of the lopro and the serial number is 000063

They used those kooky 00 plates up till around the 400's [highest # I remember seeing] and then stuck a 9 in front making the 90' plate

Sorry guys, but I'm not sure that I got that. Does that mean that it's from 1995 or something? Was this numbering parallell to the Fxxxx... or was this the first way to number them?

It's a guestimate, but my best guess is they started using those plates in 94' or 95'.

Close enough for me . Great guitar by the way! You can really feel the quality (compared to my RG). Very cool sound too! Just like Petrucci's on Awake (or did he have a JPM custom 7 on that... at least it has to be Blaze).

I think that was Blueburst. Dimarzio custom wound him pickups but JP said they didn't sound any different anyway

He used Blueburst in some video, don't know which, not a JP "fan", but he sold it when he dumped all his Ibanez after getting his EBMM's.

You can download a clip of the 7th Heaven video (an Ibanez promotional tape), where JP plays a the custom blueburst guitar...try your favorite file sharing program

Ok! That one! Now I know which one you're talking about. It was like a Prestige 7 or something...
Does anyone know why he went to EBMM? Those guitars are both ugly and sound like ****. Was it just about the money or what?
The Ibanez sounded much better and I'd love to own one of the old JPMs. Maybe I'll trade my Universe when I get tired of if .

Basically his contract with Ibanez was up and EBMM offered him the chance to design a guitar from scratch, not just modify an RG. There are heaps of topics about this on Jemsite but the following is pretty much the definitive one.

Yea, so instead of modifying Ibanez's RG, he modified EB's Silhouette.

I don't buy that explanation at all! The EBMM is on the damn top 5 list of the ugliest guitars of all time! And what's with that tremolo?

It's all opinions, I for one used to hate the way EB/MMs look, now i kind of dig them...And the trem is cool if you get tired of locking nuts...
