String gauges on UV and other 7s - Ok, I'm confused

I always thought that Ibanez electric guitars were delivered with .053s for the low b as per here at the very bottom.

Then I go to Ibanez's site and find this. *What's the correct gauge for the low b? *Is Ibanez shipping the 7s out with .054s this year?

.52 - .54 is what I tend to use, whatever you are most comfortable with really, I'd just try a couple and see which feels the most balanced play/sound wise... There really isn't any correct gauge, just find one that's right for you. Well, my opinion anyway...

I'm wanting to know what gauge Ibanez is shipping the 7s with. *There is some confusion on this.

While we're at this topic, does anyone know what's the gauge that Vai uses on his UV is it a .053 or a .054?

Congrats on the UV. I'm not sure but I thought I read somewhere that Vai uses .052-.009 on his Universe. I recommend that you try various gauges to get the sound you desire. Rock On!

they always used .053s but since .053 is VERY hard to find aftermarket, perhaps they switched to the more standard .054s size instead.

Butch any info? ... glen

I've read (I think on Vai's site, but maybe not) that he uses 10-46 on the road, and 9-42 at home to "give his fingers a break".

The Passion and Warfare tab books lists his strings on the Universe as 10-42, with a low 53.

I'm finding that I get the lowest action at standard pitch with 10-46, and a 56 on the bottom, lest the strings rattle for being too lose. You can crank the bridge down pretty tight with these.

I think they ship with a .054 now....I read a review in a mag that said the 7420 comes with a .054 for B. I remember reading the PAW tab book and seeing the .53 for B, too. I always thought it was cool to have a guitar that needed one more string then what came in the package
I personally use
* .009 *.011 *.016 *.024 *.032 *.042 *.052 on my 7's.
