Sustainiac in RG550 Genesis?

Anyone on here managed to fit a Sustainiac in an RG550 Genesis, without resorting to routing out the control cavity?

Just reading the installation manual for the Sustainiac and it states that the more recent Jems now come equipped with a wider 5 way switch, which prevents the installation of the circuit board without routing out the cavity a little. I wonder if the RG uses the same route?

................."NOTE: Newer Jem guitars use a new VLX-91 switch that is wider than the old VLX91. This new wider VLX 91 takes up so much room inside the tiny Jem cavity that the Sustainiac circuit board will not fit into the cavity. Therefore, we have to create a new cavity under the pickguard for the Sustainiac board."

Or you could just replace the pickup switch?

Re: Sustainiac in RG550 Genesis?

I have no answers but I like your idea of putting a Sustainiac in an RG550 Genesis.
I would email the “Sustainiac’s” with your question too because I’d be willing to bet they know the answer along with what works and what doesn’t work. Good luck!

Re: Sustainiac in RG550 Genesis?

I have no audio on my works PC so cant comment on how this sounds, but looks promising (the poster does state that a cavity has been cut on the back for a battery....).

Also I appreciate that this is not a Genesis.

I bought a used genesis but haven’t received it yet. I was about to buy an Schecter that comes with a sustainer but that guitar is inferior to the genesis and made in China or Indonesia.

Any idea how much this whole installation would cost?

Hi. New to the site but came here basically for this info. I just got an RG550DX and want to drop in a sustainiac with as little routing as possible. Any info would be helpful.

Re: Sustainiac in RG550 Genesis?

the genesis has all routing behind the pick guard so it is easier to install a sustainiac with no routing needed

they have 2 options

in the trem cavity, that sucks ass

and a new cavity, where they install a battery case, that's the best option, but only if you ship your guitar to them otherwise i wouldn't do it

Why is this in the Signature Model section of the site?

I found a better way, rather than butcher a good RG550.

Turns out this ticks all my boxes, and is very well put together. Yes its a Schecter, but made in South Korea. Stainless frets too.

Only downside - the edge of the body digs in my ribs and kills after half an hour, so thinking about returning it.. its no curvy JS!
