Swirl a 7DBK

I would like to give my jem 7dbk to a painter to swirl her, maybe sanding off the rough black paint, do you think the guitar loose the value, maybe will not play the same, or i'll have a unique guitar, then more value in my collection?

Re: Swirl a 7DBK

If you're going to swirl a guitar, it should really be a rear route body.
The DBK has a pickguard with front routed electronics.
Get an aftermaket body for the swirl.
It will look much better.

Re: Swirl a 7DBK

Thanks i didn't knew, in this case i should use the stock mirror pickguard to cover the electronics instead of using a clear pickguard that looks better on a swirl body?

Re: Swirl a 7DBK

Why would you want to cover most of the swirl with a pickguard? The whole point of a rear route and a clear pickguard is to show the swirl?

No you should not use a 7DBK body for a swirl. It won't increase the value one bit and more than likely it will decrease the value.

Buy an unfinished Jem body or an already swirled body for your project and use the DBK neck and hardware to finish it out... Then if you're concerned with resale value, you can always change the body back...

Yes... All Jem bodies are front route and have a pickguard. This is the reason people are suggesting getting an aftermarket body that DOES NOT need a pickguard and swirl that. It will satisfy your want for a swirled Jem and you'll still have your DBK body in original condition.

Or a BFP, FP2, GMC, PMC, DNA. Basically all of the "77" Jems plus the DNA.
