Probably because guitars go in and out of fashion, and for Ibanez to continue making unfashionable finishes is not sensible from a business standpoint. Also, Ibanez of today does not take risks like Ibanez of yesterday did, unfortunately. You want a "safe" black finish? You got it.

Are those actually originals, or are they custom made bodies painted up and with a neck slapped on them?

I'm pretty sure they're customs...the original ones were ATD swirls as far as im aware and those are Fede...soo that would say to me that they are just "bodies painted up with a neck slapped on them" =]

Re: Swirly Green Jem

Thanks. I always wondered about that. No disrespect to Max, he's a great guy and he offers a great service, but knowing they are not original would kinda put me off.

Re: Swirly Green Jem

Yeah, I was thinking VBK neck too. I'm not even sure if the necks are original either, though! Someone (I forgot who) once mentioned that they'd had their fretboard replaced and had a vine inlay done on their Ibanez, so maybe these necks are done the same way?

I don't know. But I'll apologize to Max in advance if it seems like I'm taking a shot at him. There's no way I'd do that. All I'm saying is these guitars are a bit mysterious. It'd be cool if Max could set us straight.

You out there, max?

Re: Swirly Green Jem

Max clearly states everything about those two, they are Herc Fede swirls so not original GMCs. One of them has Evos, not original to the real GMCs, one of them has a tone zone, one of them is a Herc body, etc...he is completely honest about them not being original GMCs, but they are some very nice swirls regardless.
