There's A HARDTAIL Jem Coming [2009 JEM7EAFX see post #73]

Damn... now I'm going to have to drop a ton of dough I don't have on a hardtail Jem.

Steve spilled the beans in his Vai.com newsletter.

I can't wait to see what it looks like. Should be in about a month, right?

Re: There's A HARDTAIL Jem Coming!!!

This isn't exactly "news", he told us over 2 years ago at a Meet and Greet that the next Jem would be a hardtail. Funny how we are just finding out about it now.

He said that he's heard from fans all over the world that would love to own a JEM but can't stand the double locking tremelo. IMO, what's the point of owning a JEM without a locking tremelo. It's like buying a car without a motor. You might as well just buy a Les Paul.

Red face Re: There's A HARDTAIL Jem Coming!!!

That'd be like owning a Fender with good sounding pickups...

I am not remotely excited about it...However there is probably a ton of dough to be made on a guitar like that so more power to him.

I've never understood why people don't just block the Trem off if they don't like it.

Crap. That's what I get for posting whilst drunk. I did look, though.

Re: There's A HARDTAIL Jem Coming!!!

A hardtail JS,{JS1600,}finally trickled out several monthes ago.As much as I love JS's,floating tremelo's and I dont get along.
When the 1600 was announced I knew I had to have one but wanted it to be more than just another JS,I wanted it to look like my Chromeboy but playable,{no fear of finish damage.}
Was able to get the body and headstock chromed and swapped out the stock pickups for a chrome top Joe and Mojoe.Guitar turned out stunning and plays and sounds incredible.
I posted a few half decent pics in the gallery,{other Ibanez 6 strings.}
Hope this isn't too far from discussing the JEM.

There are some tonal differences that are noticeable (to me at least) between a guitar with a blocked trem and that same guitar w/ string-thru-body or a stop tail bridge.

I think it's cool to have a hardtail. I hope it's similar to the PGM and comes in a decent variety of colours

Re: There's A HARDTAIL Jem Coming!!!

i think its good giving the customer more choice with a hard tailed, if i was after a hard tailed one and didnt have the choice, i'd be a bit unhappy having to go for a floating trem then block it.

more choice is always good

i like floaty's so it makes no odds to me though.

I think it's a great idea. Not everybody uses a whammy bar. I was in Guitar World's Defender's of the Faith column a few months back and check out the "Gear I Most Want" part :

Re: There's A HARDTAIL Jem Coming!!!

Dont think its going to be gold and white, im going with a darker colour or a natural finish.

Everybody will complain about the color, but it will have a unique detail.

Let me guess, it will be white but made from clubbed baby seals?
