Re: Totally Fake JEM FP

It's still noticeable, the monkey grip is so damn big and it's equipped with that corny trem, anyway the paintwork or is it fabric? is a good job though

Yeah, I can't believe these guys, surely they can't be making money now, what with everyone being warned about these counterfeits.

Re: Totally Fake JEM FP

Yeah, there are some obious give aways to use Ibanez "gurus"
but
what about some kid who is just starting out and buys that guitar? I dont suppose he will know that the truss rod cover is not the correct one or that neck screws are to close together,

These chinese makers are getting more and more accurate, and using better woods from what I hear (maple and basswood)

Still, I would like to try one out for the cheap price,

Re: Totally Fake JEM FP

The one they have that scared me wa sthe fake Zakk Wylde Les Paul. The Ibanez trem is hard to fake, but the cheezy Gibson hardware is easy to duplicate. Man I'm gonna buy one and smash it on stage! Everyone will think I destryed a $4600 les paul!

Re: Totally Fake JEM FP

I kinda dig that FPxxxx serial number.
Seriously, the fakes are getting closer and closer to the originals.. optical-wise. With a different trem and only a quick look at the pic I could have fallen for it.
I think we'll see the day when ibanez will have to start putting security holographs or something like that on their headstocks, like the software companies do already.

Re: Totally Fake JEM FP

I bought a quasi-Chibanez made by "M'Guitars" on the 'bay out of curiosity for around $100. It has the Ibz headstock shape and the oversize monkey grip... but the most stiking thing about it was the trem- it was a bona-fide (although sloppily-executed) Edge copy. The only real difference was that it was a "speedloader" style but it was copied it pretty good detail- the same footprint (it drops right in to a real Edge route), the same bar style (with the plastic cuffs, though it doesn't fit so well), replacable metal knife edges (!!!), and even the studs are the slightly beefier, thicker Edge-style studs (which also drop right in to Edge bushings). I was actually kind of impressed, despite the obvious low quality of the materials used.
