Trem arm hitting the Tone knob.

Hi.
I have a JS1 that when the toneknob is pulled out the tremoloarm hits it.
It is not a problem, i just wanted to know if it is normal that they do?
Thanks.

Re: Trem arm hitting the Tone knob.

if your trem is setted deep into the cavity yes. also if the trem has a bad angle the arm could hit the knob, if so you need to set it better (the knife has to be perpendicular to the pot)

Every JS I've worked on does it.

Mines the same, but love the action, so I just deal. The setup was a la Rich. So it should be proper. And its not hitting it that much anyways.

Re: Trem arm hitting the Tone knob.

The only way around the poor design [not using a shorter push/push switch], is either bend the bar so that it does clear and still rests in the position you want, or, neck shim enough to raise the trem out of the body far enough the bar clears. The second is not good advice. Or, change the pots to push/push with shorter knobs.

Re: Trem arm hitting the Tone knob.

Thanks guys.
As i said earlier, it is not a big problem.
But are there any good reasons to why it should be any problems installing a push/push tone control?

Now that I think about it I'll be you could just change the knobs to hat type and it would be fine, just a little harder to grip to pull up.

Re: Trem arm hitting the Tone knob.

you can just bend the arm so it sits higher -- i did that and much prefer it that way, especially when actually using the bar -- ie., dive bombs etc.

Re: Trem arm hitting the Tone knob.

In the test fitup i have done of my js build i was pleasantly suprised there was no clash ofthe tone or volume knobs with the trem arm... It was with dimarzio 500k push pulls and 80s edge trem... REMEMBER somtimes the early EDGE trems had the holder slightly protruding.. Maybe thats just enough to make the difference. This was with the trem well sunk in..
