Trem stability

I've never owned a guitar with a Floyd or any other "decent" tremolo. Just your standard stock Strat style trems.

Set up properly (and me not being too hard on the trem), will the Edge Pro be fairly stable in terms of the JEM staying in tune? I'm pretty psyched about the thought of owning a JEM but I'm hoping the trem won't prove to be a nightmare.

What's your experience with these?

Thanks,

Bruce

Re: Trem stability

It will prove to be fine, don't worry. If possibly instability bothers you, get some locking studs from Rich at Ibanez Rules and you'll be good to go. Even then, it's not vital. You said you're light on the trem, it'll be fine.

Re: Trem stability

Thanks for the reply. I was looking into buying from Rich anyway. Sounds like he does a great job at setting them up.

Re: Trem stability

Yeah, go for it! I have never heard of anyone who's dissatisfied with Rich's setups.

Re: Trem stability

I was like you a few years ago. I had been a player for more than 15 years, but with zero experience in trems, let alone setup, etc.

Rich's site and this one gave me all the info I needed to become decent at handling my own guitars. Now with about 6 Ibanez Edge pro guits and a couple of Floyd outfitted guits I have no problem changing strings (nearly as fast as on my fixed bridge guitars), pulling off the trem to clean the fretboard, and I even installed my own post mods bought from Rich (on all my Ibanez guitars).

If I can do it, anyone can! Start reading now, because some of the info can take a bit to soak in... but overall it's very simple. Just a little practice and don't be afraid to knock something out of whack, that's how you learn. You can always get it back into shape with a little patience.

Re: Trem stability

Actually setup properly with the stud mod the edge pro is pretty much dead equal with the edge in terms of stability. ITs arguably still the best tremolo available to the public today. The key thing with a floyd rose is proper setup, without that its like a driving a v8 on only two cylinders (its a piece of ****)

Re: Trem stability

Awsome. I'm one step closer to buying that JEM. I just need to convince my wife that it's worth it!

I agree. I've looked far and wide across the net and around the DC area where I live and Rich seems to be the man. I hate Guitar Center but that's about all there is here. Last time I checked they had no JEM's anyway, which is too bad because I've never even touched one but I'm still pretty convinced that I'll love it. I've wanted a JEM for years just on looks alone!

He's right you know ! Don't be afraid of it. Sometimes you'll have to fiddle a bit if you change string companies (wierd but true?!?!?!) and there will be times when a little extra is needed here and there but the truth is you can't hurt it and you wont break it so fiddle away until you can do it blindfolded with earplugs in.
