Twisting my rod... - ...on my JEM

How often do you guys have to do it? That is, adjust your truss rod. My Jem 7vwh was made in '98 and it seems like the neck needs to be tweaked every 6 months or so. It's not my main guitar anymore so I only play it about four hours a week and it seems to be worse now than when it was my primary instrument. My guitar wizard (Ron Pace, Houston, TX 713-339-9000) doesn't seem too concerned about it but I've never had a guitar that has required this kind of attention before. I live in Houston and travel and perform in many different climates so I guess that might be affecting things. Has anyone else run into this? I can live with it, I would just like to know if it's unusual.

Twisting my rod...

I also live in Houston and bring my guitars (one of them a Jem VWH) to Ron Pace for tweaking. *I don't adjust the truss rod that often, but I do adjust the action about twice a year. *Do u play around town?
Out,
Gregory *

Twisting my rod...

I live in Canada and regularly adjust the truss rods on all my guitars but for the iron-necked USRG10. I wish I could get away with tweaking the truss rod only every six months - I pretty much have to give it a little twist every three or four...

here in Wisconsin it's pretty much the same thing...cold dry winters and hot humid summers....most guitars need a little tweak every now and then

Twisting my rod...

While we're on the subject, I've recently been setting up my latest Jem (also a VWH) and have run into a problem I've never had with the rest of the family.

Following the Jemsite setup guide as I normally do, between the trem height and the truss rod adjustments I've got the whole thing perfect, the guitar's really singing - except the high E on frets about 5 to 12, which buzz horribly. *Raising the bridge high enough to eliminate the buzz makes the strings too high. *Is my neck twisted? *I can't figure it out.

Take s straight edge and see if it'll rock on fret 13.

Okay Doc, she's up here on the desk next to my Mac.

I'm getting rocking at 13... and at 5... and the tiniest bit on 9. *Gimme the bad news.

It's probably worth noting that the rocking only happens when I put a straight edge right next to the high-E. *The rest of each fret, across the bredth of the board, is fine in each case.
