Unable to get 2nd and 4th positions as per pdf diagram.

Dear Jemsite members,

I have got guitar, pickups and VLX91 switch as per PDF:
http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/defaul...grams/JEM7.pdf

A friend soldered it for me. He was unable to get 2nd and 4th positions as in the diagram.

2nd position has single coil and full bridge humbucker.
4th position has single coil and full neck humbucker.

What could have he missed to be unable to split single coils from the humbuckers to get the same wiring as in the diagram?

Pictures from my wiring here:
https://pcarvalho5150.wordpress.com/...lution-wiring/

Have concerts coming soon. Hope you can help.

Re: Unable to get 2nd and 4th positions as per pdf diagram.

If those are Dimarzio Evolutions it should be the black and white ones from the humbuckers going to where I can see brown ones.
Are they just an extension of the black+white cables?
If they are, i bet the brown cables need to be exchanged:
When the one humbucker is active, you are splitting the other one, which has no effect.
Just exchange the two brown cables.

Good luck.
Cheers
J.

Dear Jemerator,

Are they just an extension of the black+white cables?
"Yes"

Just exchange the two brown cables.
"You mean black and white separately must be in the switch?"

Isn't that what the brown cable is doing? Mixing the two together?

You can leave the extensions. Just unsolder the upper brown and solder it to where the lower brwon is. Then solder the lower one to where the upper one was.

Yes it seems to have worked

The magnets on the other half of the humbucker still have some impedance signal, but its less than before. That's normal do to the proximity right?

Sorry, I don't know what you mean with this. Can you explain in other words? Have you measured the resistance of the non active coil? Where have you measured, how and how much?

Tapped on it, with a small Allen wrench to test. Should be normal.
