Universe with factory full-pocket neck shim?
First post, but I'm a bit of a 7-string Ibanez fan (I have four with another UV supposedly being delivered tomorrow...).
Anyway, I just picked up a '97 UV7SBK (silver dot UV). The guitar has a full-pocket neck shim, maybe 1/16 think, that looks like it's brown ABS plastic. I haven't yet pulled off the pickguard, but I think the shim may be necessary to give enough clearance for the 21-24 fret extension over the body. I tried to get it out, but it's stuck pretty well. Not sure if it's glued in or held in by paint.
Is this from the factory?
Kind of funny in an "Inception" type of way (or a Pimp My Ride kind of way...), but there's a shim on the shim: there was a small, thin piece of paper on top of this plastic shim, right at the bridge-side of the neck pocket.
Anyway, just curious if anyone's seen anything like this? The guitar sounds and plays great with the exception of one or two quirks that I'm trying to iron out, so I don't think the shim is negatively impacting anything. I just seems odd.
