Re: Universe neck joint crack
If you're talking about the joint by the headstock, it's cracks are VERY easy to fix. It's a common problem with Les Pauls. I've done this on several friends' guitars.
Course sand paper
Fine Sand paper
glue (I use clear Gorilla glue)
small, thin flat head screwdriver
1- place the screwdriver into the crack to open it slightly (did I mention SLIGHTLY?). This will allow the glue to get all the way into the crack.
2- put the glue into the crack. Make sure it gets all the way down.
3- remove the screwdriver.
4- place a clamp on the joint. If your clamps do not have rubber or soft plastic ends, protect the wood by placing softer wood between the clamp and wood.
5- Let sit overnight, or even 2 nights.
6- remove the clamp.
7- scrape off any excess glue.
8- sand the area until you can't feel the crack at all.
9- If the neck is finished, go to StewMac for matching paint. Otherwise, you are done.
