Universe UV7BK - value question

Hi all,

If this question is not proper for this forum please let me know. I have a value question for a guitar I need to sell and this is where all the experts live!

I just acquired an early UV7BK. I figure the normal value is in the $750-$800 range, as per the pricing part of the website. The part that surprised me was the serial number. It seems to be a very early example of this model. The sn is 000464.

So, I've got two questions:

1) Does the serial number mean that this is one of the first 500 made?
2) If so, what is the value of a guitar like this? It has play wear, but overall it's in excellent condition.

Thanks, I really appreciate any help.

Hi Rich,

Thanks so much for the reply. Bummer on the value - I was hoping an early model would be worth a little more.

I didn't know if my question was ok for the forum so I didn't want to go into too much detail.

The wear and tear consists of:

- swirl marks from polishing (it's a black guitar...)
- pickmarks on the pickguard (go figure...)
- a couple marks at the tip of the headstock
- hardly any fret wear at all
- one small paint chip on the body - on the edge of the guitar below the tone control
- some wear on the neck plate on the back
- hardly any fading of the green parts.

Overall - very very nice condition. Just a few bumps from age.

Depending on how big that small chip is, how much play wear especially fretwear, and if and what it's cased in, you might get $850 in a private sale. Probably less on ebay.

Hey Rich,

Thanks again. The chip is small but since it sounds like it's a big deal I think I'll have my friend fix it. He repairs damage to pianos and the chip will magically disappear once he gets to it. He's really good. There is fret wear, but not bad for a guitar of this age. It could probably use a little filing at some point but it's not necessary for playability. The case has "Ibanez" on the outside in pink. The interior is form-fit, also in pink.

Hey JPWannabe - I don't have pics yet but will be taking them as soon as my friend fixes the chip and polishes the guitar.
