us and japanese jems

Hi!
I just got my 89 jem fp, and i'm very happy with it! the trem still works very good!
I've got 2 questions:
a friend of mine talked to me about "japanese jem" and us ones...(fp and others typical models)
1)what is the difference ?
2)he says that he got a low price version of the white jem (the one on sex n' religion I think) (new not used).
i'm very surprised and wondering, how can it be????
thanks

There was no US jem, all were made in Japan, by the low price jem, he probably meant the 555...
