UV neck pickup REALLY thin! help!

Ok so a I may buy my buddy's UV for $1000, pristine. Also comes with that nice case. Hes lettin me borrow it, and Ive been playin it for hours now, and Im taking a break. The bridge pickup screams...the middle single coil is amazing on clean...this entire guitar is perfect. EXCEPT!! What the hell is the neck pickups problem? I was expecting that beautiful "For the love of god" tone...but the thing sounds like a single coil! It and it in the coil tap position are nearly the same...and probly my favorite thing in the world to do on a guitar is to switch on the neck pup and do some petrucciesque speed picking...but damn this thing is THIN. It doesnt pick up on pick attack at all. The pickup coils all have a TINY bit of oxidation on them, but other than that, like I said, this axe is perfect. Can anyone explain this, or does anyone have the same problems, or would maybe an Air Norton 7 fix my problem? Thanks dudes!

Re: UV neck pickup REALLY thin! help!

Sounds like you have a miswire somewhere or possibly even a failing pickup. Blaze neck in basswood is fairly buttery and thick sounding.

To each his own, I absolutely love the neck Blazes in my UVs, always have.

By the way, nice score on the UV if you get it. You could always replace the neck pickup, I wouldn't but that's just me.....unless of course there is something wrong with it. Congrats if you get it.

Nah its as close as it needs to be. Its not low output or anything...it just sounds really thin, like its been on a diet waaay too long and just doesnt have that amazing fat neck tone that i like. it really resembles the tone of a single coil but with the power of a humbucker. actually, it sounds exactly like the v2 in old 87 rg550, and i hated that thing. if anyone knows how those things are, then youll know what im talking about...

Haha. Dude, I cant stand that neck pickup. My favorite thing in the world is that Petrucci-esque super thick neck pickup tone, and it aint delivering. So, Im not gonna spend $1000 on a guitar Im not getting a good tone out of.

Same thing happened on my 7VWH (03 model) I took the guitar apart and measured the resistance on the pickups. Turns out the neck pup had a short in it. I sent it back to dimarzio and they sent me a new one for free!!!!

Nice! Im actually thinking of replacing them all with either Blaze custom/Air Norton 7 or the Musicman Petrucci 7 pickups. Im pretty sure you can order those direct.
