UV777BK pickup height issue

Hi Everyone,

My UV is a little under the weather...

See the neck pickup? I can't raise it on the right side. Seems to be stripped enough so after a few turns of the height adjustment screw the spring pushes it back to the bottom. So what do I do now?

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

You have to remove the string and the pickguard and fix it !

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

Looks like someone used the wrong height adjustment screws because they wanted them to be silver.

They're stock, just faded.

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

Screw hole can be rethreaded. Take out pickup and find lokal workshop that can do that.
It is few second job.

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

It's really not as easy as just re tapping the threads on the pickup, if the thread is stripped then you'll more than likely have to go the next size up which means getting larger screws and redrilling the pickguard holes to suit. You'd also have to do all the the pickup screws for it to match. You may be lucky and it's only the screw that's stripped but I wouldn't think so but you never know till you take the thing to pieces. Also getting larger screws might not be as easy as you think with the correct heads on them.

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

One of two things could have happened.

1) simplest - it's possible that the pickup has just been backed out SO far that the screw disengaged - can you pull the screw free with little pressure? If so, then this is a simple matter of popping out the trem, unscrewing the pickguard, flipping it over, and re-seating the screw into the pickup and tightening it back up.

2) harder - the pickup may be stripped out. Couple tings you could do, either repleave it with a screw one size larger that will bite in the pickup, or possibly just lining the center of the thing with a semi-soft epoxy or even just a bit of hard wax (sealing wax might work well, actually), and then threading the screw through while it was still a bit soft, to kind of re-create the threading inside the pickup.

Of course, if you're not 100% happy with the sound of the pickup, this might be a good opportunity to just bite the bullet and try something else.

How did this happen? Did something push down on the pickup hard? Were you lowering it and it just fell loose?

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

I've had the guard off and i'm very certain the pickup tab is stripped. Some dudes on sevenstring.org said i could very nimbly attatch a nut to the tab with superglue or somethin.

Perhaps going a screw size up would be easier, i dont really care if theres one odd screw on the pickguard. Guess I'm still weighing my options.

I'd rather not have to buy a new pickup and wire it in. I aint got no beef with the Blazes nah mean?! I'm lookin for the simplest quickest fix.

Thanks for all of your input guys!

Re: UV777BK pickup height issue

A little dab of superglue will fix most anything, including stripped threads on a pickup.

So you mean just putting a little on the tab threads and then letting it dry to close it up a little, then the screw will basically re-thread itself?

If you have accelerator there is no wait, but, yes. Easiest fix there is.
