uv77mc?? I need help here:)

I know I didn`t introduce myself yet, I will!! I need to know some things about this guitar. I would like to know things like, year, ATD or MKR, model... I have the original pickups for it but the were green/yellow "dimarzio". I installed a seymour duncan "bridge" invader and a dimarzio deactivator. I`ve owned it for about a year.

I`ll get some better pics up soon!!

Thank you!!!
Chops

Re: uv77mc?? I need help here:)

The first two numbers of the serial number on the neckplate will give you an idea of the year of the guitar. It is definitely not an MKR, so that means it is an ATD. But the original pickups were not yellow and green. They should have been completely green.... yellow and green were on the UV777GR.

Cheers,

Tim

Re: uv77mc?? I need help here:)

I`ll take a picture of the pickups when I get home, I dont think they were changed, well before I swapped them. This guitar was like a time capsul for awhile but anyway, who knows!! Now MKR and ATD, what`s the difference other than the colours and the swirl, what version is worth more? Sorry bout all the Q`s!!

Thanks,

Marc

Re: uv77mc?? I need help here:)

ATD = about time designs. Darren was the swirler. The company does not exist anymore but Darren was recruited again to do the reissue.
MKR = started as a joke apperantly. an acronym that means mustard, ketchup and something else I can't remember, reffering to the colors of the swirl. MKRs were swirled by a Japanese guy.
You can check the gallery here on the uvmc section, apperantly there are only MKRs there,
and you will see the difference.
ATDs are more sought after.

You should also be able to validate an ATD swirl by checking the neck pocket. Should you ever take it in for a service (like I religiously do whenever I buy a new guitar) then upon removing the neck, you should find an ATD stamp.

Re: uv77mc?? I need help here:)

That's a 1991 ATD, I presume latter part of '91 looking at the middle pickup. There isn't an 'original strap', they didn't come with straps, and the green and yellow pickups you have were also not stock. This could therefore mean the middle single coil is non-original too. You also don't have the original uv1000, so this isn't ever going to be a collector's piece (not a bad thing!).

TBH, unless it was in amazing condition, having non original pickups/case etc isn't a massive deal in terms of the value. The neck alone is probably worth $500 at least! People want the ATD swirled body and the pyramid inlay and DiMarzio still make Blaze pickups in green.

Oh, and sell that to me :-)

Re: uv77mc?? I need help here:)

The DiMarzio straps were a popular choice. Considering how much of it is non original and there's no case, I'd probably offer you somewhere in the region of $3000-3500. Someboy else may be able to give you a more accurate valuation though.

Re: uv77mc?? I need help here:)

I'd think $3500 would still be a bit low-end on this one. The swirl pattern looks interesting, and yes, that's an ATD swirl.

ATDs are generally worth more than MKRs, but what really affects the value more than the swirl is the condition of the clearcoat. Are there a lot of dings and chips along the edges? How are the frets? The bridge is in good shape, so that helps you as well.
