I've always wanted a UVMC since I became aware of Vai and Ibanez guitars.
I just couldn't justify the cost of one- even 10 years ago they were high.
I was talking with my sister-in-law who lives in Chicago recently about my new band - we're a bunch of old guys - greying (or balding) with thickening middle sections and I was telling her how much fun it is to play covers out again after all these years....at 50 it may seem a little crazy to actually book gigs and play in larger venues, but that's exactly what we're doing. What's more crazy- people actually like us! (www.thekeystoneband.com
) Anyway, I told her about my recent purchase of the Van Halen guitar and she asked me if that's the one I always wanted.
It stopped me in my tracks. No......No, it's NOT the one I've always wanted.
I've always wanted a UV77MC and I told her so. She was silent a minute, and then said "So go get one stupid." " Do you really think you'll be in a band at 60?" "Get it NOW and enjoy it."
So, I put some ads out, called some stores snooping around....then I realized
the only safe transaction I would trust would be with Rich Harris at Ibanez Rules, so I called him and we talked about it. Well, I'll be getting my 1990 UV in a few days and I feel like a kid at Christmas....in the mean-time here's a pic. I'll be passing out cigars when I post a review of this baby in a few weeks.....
Moral of the story -Life is not a dress-rehearsal. Go for it before it's too late.
