Vai signatures and Jems

Hey guys

I was curious...
To have one of our beloved Jems signed by the man
himself would totally rock!

Do you think though that having his signature on
one of our axes makes it worth double it's price?

There was a guy here in Toronto a little while ago who had a Blue Floral
for sale and was asking $5 grand due to a vai signature.
I know florals are awesome but is that Vai signature actually
worth the extra $2 Grand?

Just a thought.......

Re: Vai signatures and Jems

Vai signs loads of guitars, and all the time he still has a pulse, his signature isn't going to add any financial value to an instrument. That isn't to say that it isn't worth more to the owner though.

2 grand on the price of a guitar!!!
I'd rather buy the guitar and try to get his autograph after a gig or something!! Substantially cheaper!!

Re: Vai signatures and Jems

it sure wouldn't double the price unless he actually owned it. you can't really place a value on his signature other than knowing it would make it more desirable and thus bringing a little higher price. it really comes down to how bad someone wants it really. Vai signs 1000's of guitars a year i'm sure and he is still signing away so they aren't rare - the BFP on the other hand is more rare but not $5000 rare. just my 2 cents.

$ 5,000

Your sure your weren't in Vegas visiting a certain E.R.

Sure if you have his sig on your Jem, you could probably (depending on the buyer) use that to talk up sale price a bit more, but as demon said, you can't really place a value on his sig.

Personally, I don't like when people have him sign the body on the front of the guitar. It can look a bit gawdy (IMHO) But I wouldn't mind having him sign the back of the headstock

I personally hate when he signs the back of the headstock. Sign the trem cover, you can take it off to keep it fresh, and it's not a permanent part of the guitar [like signing wood with sharpie!]

I couldn't agree more!!!! I hate signatures on the body, back of the headstock or anywhere else you can't take it off. So an autograph would make the guitar less valuable to me.

Re: Vai signatures and Jems

When I see the signatures, I sometimes question the authenticity to be honest. I love Vai's music and all, but I couldnt part with a few more grand just to have some pen marks on my guitar.

Just my .0108536 pence, which is currently the going rate for 2 cents on the market at the moment.

Plus its a hell of a lot easier to bring a cover to a concert than your entire guitar

Great point

What something is actually "worth" and what people are prepared to pay for things very rarely match anyway!!

Re: Vai signatures and Jems

I have Vai sigs on 2 covers and a giant tortoise shell guitar pick.

I don't think I'd want another guitarist's sig on the guitar body or neck of a guitar. Maybe if I was performing or recording with Steve, Petrucci, Satch or Steve Morse. I'd let them sign mine while I was signing one of theirs.

Re: Vai signatures and Jems

if you look at the back of the head stock of Steve's EVO you can see my signature. He kept calling me over and over again to sign it and eventually I said alright.
