I've seen plenty of GREAT Herc swirls [take Glens Abalone swirl, Adam has some sweet Hercs, etc.] but the guy is pulling one swirl, wiping it down, reswiling it until he gets what he wants. And still, they lack.

You're doing a COPY of a swirl done by ATD, and you expect there to be no comparrison like this?!
I think you're missing the point...

Re: Want a DNA??

£1700 for a copy? Seems rather steep, especially for a guitar that doesn't totally resemble what it claims to be. Sorry, but I'd rather save the extra cash and invest in the real thing.

those things never bring more than $600 to $1,000 on the bay or anywhere else I have seen them. (Hey HDS talk about smart minded money ones ) a DNA copy just sold here for $900 and it had a prestige neck on it and the swirl was 10 times better than the one you showed in this thread! those prices are ridiculous! and they are definitely not an affordable choice for the player (That is what real Ibanez go for in the UK) so let me get this straight, you justify charging so much for your stuff because the real ones go for $8,000 I thought you said they were overpriced?!? or is it that they are overpriced when it suits you but when it comes to selling your knock offs you change your views to say: why pay $8,000 when you can pay 1,700 for my knock offs!!
Olie old boy

Please can you justify your comments of it being a mediocre copy?????
Have you ever met me, seen my work, played one of my guitars........ NO?

Chibanez are a mediocre copy
Mine are put together and crafted by a skilled luthier using top class components....... Mediocre they certainly aren't old boy

Re: Want a DNA??

Also the $2 to £1 can adversely alter the perception of value/a good deal etc........
But for UK buyers my copies are £300-£400 cheaper than retail on a 7VWH

You are wasting your time on me, just to let you know.

Why is it the bulk of the people bashing his guitar are the ones who have a REAL DNA?

People, jugding Darren's to Herc's is really stupied. I know how swirls are done and no it isnt a some majic friken art thing you learn over 4 years in art school. Some swirls come out crappy and sometimes you have a happy mistake. Both Darren and Herc have their share of nasty swirls.

Hi Max,

I never mentioned or implied anything about your work, I merely critiqued Herc's swirls which are very far away from the real deal! (specially the DNA)granted I have seen a couple swirls in your gallery that were good but other than that I am not a fan at all. I'd never compare your replicas to chibanez that is something you conjured up! I'm sure that the guitars are well crafted but that is not what I was discussing.

I do not mean to offend you mate I am just stating my opinion and arguing the subject!

Oliver

So if you've not got a spare $8k lying around for a real one

Give me shout

Sorry dude. I won't be buying one. That's way too much money for a paint job and a new fretboard. If I spend that much for a copy I'll buy the real deal instead. And yes, I've got $8k to buy one, but I'm not chomping at the bit to do so right now. For a copy and the right price, yes.

For me, doing the fretboard is the painful part. I'd rather just buy one then make it myself. The paint job is not a problem at all for me to do. There's no way I'd spend $3200 USD for 500 series RG that has a swirl on it and a new fretboard. Bring it down to say $1100 to $1500 USD and you'll probaby get some buyers....especially if you scrap the skunk neck and use a Prestige neck instead.
