Whammy bar mystery

I own a 777 Jem. Some time ago, my whammy bar broke after a bit of "playing", and when I finally got to an Ibanez retail shop I found they only had a slightly shorter (about an inch) bar for sale. Does anyone know the reason of this? Are the whammy bars for the newer Jems shorter than those of the original 777 line?!? Or did they mix it up with the 555 tremolos? Btw, I finally got hold of the bar I was looking for, from a shop where they had a box full of various used bars.

confused

You most likely never had the right bar [or the other shop didn't have the right bar] they haven't changed in demension. Bend to tip about 6 1/2"

I too have broken several bars...no more than five or six, but they do snap. Usually right in the little socket, so you gotta push out the remaining end...lol

The bar that came with the guitar is/was about 6 1/2", while the one at the shop, who they claimed came straight from Ibanez was just 5,5"
Does anyone know what freak guitar that bar was made for? I tried it on a Jem and I felt like a clown with too big shoes (well, you get the point, right? )

Well, as it seem that you buy new ones, what are they called?
I think the one that was too short was called 2LE2-1B, but in the catalog, it says they are for Edges!
Or do you use Lo-pro? Does anyone know what the correct Edge bar is called?

ED - Edge, LE - Lo Edge, doesn't matter, they're the same bar anyway.

It says a lot about the strength of the strings and the grip of the trem on the strings that the bar sometimes breaks before the strings do...

Not really. Repetitive stress coupled with some violent whammy action typically. Ive broken bars myself, but usually about 100 sets of strings go before the bar does . Who here actually uses the bar with a jem and has NEVER broken a string?
