what should a brand new Jem7V look like...

i mean, should it be in a bag or plastic around the springs or something? i am asking because i want to make sure that it hasn't been sitting in some other shop for the last 2 years being played by everyone who passes it.

ummmmm...... "BRAND NEW"

Seriously, just have a good look over it for small dings / dents, etc. You know...the normal things that would happen to a guitar sitting open in a music shop. Most shops I know do not leave Jems or any of their high end guitars out for just any passer by to play.

The only protective plastic that should be on it would be on the pickguard, backplate and other covers.

More importantly....."How does she play"???

+1 I've always had to ask to play anything $1500 and up in the guitar area. They usually keep the jems (or other high end guitar for that matter) Either too high up on the wall for people to just grab and play, in a protective clear case, or stored out of sight all together. Hey if you spot any dings or flaws that gives you room to bargain the price down, no matter what anyone says you can always bargain, if not it's worth a try. If the place isn't willing to bargain with you over something then they obviously don't want your business. I usually say I'm interested in something and then tell them I brought only a certain amount cash (usually a little under what they want for it) and I'd be willing to take it off thier hands right now in cash. usually it does the trick

I just got a brand new JEM7VWH that was untouched. It had unpeeled plastic film on the pickguard and all of the other pickguard material on the body of the guitar. If the plastic film is on those parts of the guitar and the guitar has no scratches or dents on it anywhere, then it is most likely a new guitar.

At the GC stores here, when they have Jem7Vs, they are out for anyone to play. Which I believe is pretty dopey because I've seen them with dings and scratches on them and who's going to buy one "new" with dings on it?

I got my 7VWH at a GC in 98. It was hung up on the topmost hanger on the guitar wall and was obviously put there so it remained way out of reach. I did get a great price on it back then.
