Wow, maybe we did used to get better prices than you guys... the 1992/3 UK list price for a GMC was £1099 (about US$1770).
Mind you, the next year (1993/4) the list price increased by £700 (yes, that's a 63% price increase!!!) to £1799.

That might have been when F&N lost the distributorship then?

Think it must have been - these prices are taken straight from the FCN retail price lists for the respective years. I think it was about '94 or early 95 when Ibanez basically disappeared from UK shores thanks to FCN having their dealership/distributorship revoked. Despite the 94 and 95 catalogs being widely available, I didn't see many Ibanez again (and nobody could tell me where to get them) until about 1997 when a minutely thin Ibanez catalog appeared (funnily enough actually printed in the UK rather than Japan!) and a few guitars began making it back into the shops.
That's what I remember anyway, I'm sure others will remember it different!!

Sorry for going a bit off topic

The most "interesting" things are off topic

The way it was explained to me is FCN lost the distributorship because they allowed all the dealers to get into a pricing war with the end result being nobody was making any money. Not sure how the revised price list fits into that, certainly FCN was making a few bucks

One thing I do definitely remember is that there were plenty of bodies and necks being sold seperately. In 1992/3 issues of Guitarist magazine you can see some guitar dealers adverts selling vine and pyramid necks for £100 - £150 and other Ibanez necks for less! If only I'd known then... *sigh*

Strange, specially because the price rose and the quality dropped.

I got my PMC, GMC, PFP and PGM100 before the price increase (GMC was used/shop used. Sadly had to sell years later
I think the demand for them shot up after the Seville Expo thingy too.
