Where is the original PAW Universe?

I'm sorry if this has been posted or discussed before but I've searched the forums and can't find anything on it, and with the imminent release of the UV77RE it seems a pertinent question..................

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the original Multicolor Universe?

It seems from some hunting around the internet that it's not in Steve's possession anymore.

Is it destroyed?, hidden?, sold? , doing the rounds on the bay?

That guitar is my absolute holy grail of guitars. The swirl is so special and the balance of colours was (in my opinion) never ever replicated on the guitars that were available to buy (ATD's included)

I'd like to know too! t's pretty well-known that Steve gave the guitar to Thomas McRocklin in the early 90s, but whether he still has it or if he sold it years ago or something, I have no idea.

Wouldn't it be funny if someone stripped it, filled the grip in and had it converted to a pearl-dot UV7BK...

Along with one of his Flames.

The guitar is available for 25,000 pounds, if anybody wants it that bad.

Many thanks for the prompt response!

I guess then that Thomas still has it and is willing to part with it for 25k?

Hmmmmmm..... I'd best start hunting for a spare 25 grand!

O_o For that price will they Photoshop out the grip?

When I think of Steve's UV swirls, the one that comes to mind most is this one. http://vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar025.html

What grip? - the Universe never had one. Thats a nasty swirl!

Also, where is Thomas these days? Did his voice break? Is he playing or did peer pressure put him off?

Wrong. There are two versions of artwork for PAW - I have a copy of both and the first version back cover shows the UV with a monkeygrip on the ground between his boots.
The second version artwork had airbrushed the monkeygrip out of the pic.

Ah yes I remember now, you could see the pixels onfront cover. The world suddenly looked clearer the day I heard that record. I totally knew what he was about and I was going that way myself. They even photoshopped his belt buckle and fairies (obviously LOL!!!)

I agree - that record stopped me in my musical tracks. It's still my favorite Vai record, and one of my all-time top 10.

Pixels? It was airbrushed by hand.

He could be thinking of the back cover, particularly the enlarged version on the Hal Leonard TAB book (I assume also on the back of the LP) - it was pretty pixely.

Re: Where is the original PAW Universe?

Wayaye man Is it Mcrocklin or as the American interviewer on youtube tagged him Mcrockland?
Am I right that the reissue FP had AANJ? I only seen 1 of these for sale ever. What you think of the UV reissue? If the FP was the new joint I'd have liked to see the UV with the same. A reissue aint gonna be the same anyway esp. for its collectable price if you get my drift.

Re: Where is the original PAW Universe?

I believe it's McLaughlin and Vai gave him the stage name McRocklin. It'd be interesting to hear his playing these days.
