Why 2 serial #s? - now i'm cornfused

Why would a JS6000 have a 4-digit # on the neck plate and a different # on the back of the headstock? Also, the headstock # is F345xxx, wouldn't that mean it's a '93 or did they just grab a JS neck from a bin of leftovers from the previous year? None of this is really important, I know, but curious nonetheless. Thanks.

the necks are stamped or stickered when they're made. The JS plates are sequential and used as such. This axe should be '93 ('94) model... glen

Yup, the neck plates have no significance except that they continue serially up till the present. Before they started putting serial #'s on the head the plate # is the serial #, after that it just tells you how many Japanese JS models were made before yours. The necks on the 6000 are different so I'd assume they made a run of them pre-NAMM to have some ready for delivery when the model was debuted.
