Why is there a 555 neck on FLO?

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here so sorry if this subject has been raised before, but i was curious as to why Vai uses a 555 neck on FLO? Having played both 555 and 7vwh necks i couldnt notice any particular advantage of the 555 in fact the 7vwh felt considerably better
Is it something to do with the added Fernandes Sustainer in it?
Cheers

In addition that neck had some major fret mods done to the first 3. If you haven't seen it close enough it's pretty crazy and possibly he decided to "test" it on a "junk" neck. Ibanez started cutting Steve VWH rosewood necks in 96'

The neck on flo is a 7vwh neck (with rosewood board) since end 2001.see the live DVD (and no fretwave is installed, also the steinberger gearless tuners are now gone).
The old 555 flo neck has been modded at sims with lights & stuff since then IIRC.

Here's a pic of Flo with the 555 neck with fretwave installed.
Another one showing the gearless tuners better.

And here's a pic* of the 555 neck with the gearless tuners and Sims LEDs installed.

OK, so I have noticed the altered frets (fretwave, huh?). I assumed it was a problem with the picture. Can someone clue me in as to the purpose in that. It escapes me.

Thanks for the pics!

Cut out, piece of rosewood + 2 dots glued in. You can see it actually beeing lighter wood between the two dots on several pics.

at the time the Jem7vwh design made it to market, Steve hadn't announced any preference for rosewood over ebony. Just like your tastes change over time, so do his. After a few years of maple boards, the line diversified with rosewood on the FP and various 77 models, and ebony on the VWH. Later, Steve seemed to favor rosewood and you'll notice recent models have mirrored this. This is just a case of the line changing with Steve's taste in guitars.
