I know this thread is old - but I actually did this and as much as I LOVE my JEM, I still wish I had my LP...

I have a les paul standard and a Jem 7VWh, and will NEVER part with either of them. Worlds apart in sound and feel but on the same totally awesome curve.

no offense to anyone talking business in here..... just the spammer that has been removed after putting ads in for his website.

Maybe the mods should delete my comments as well so I don't look like such a twat with my comments sitting there, seemingly aimed at no one. LOL

Re: Is this a wise Choice? - Question

I'd say yes. I'm trying to trade my Gibson Les Paul Studio (ebony satin) for an Ibanez Prestige right now.

I already got a prestige (2610e) last week and now I am thoroughly addicted to them. My SG may be the next casualty.

Re: Is this a wise Choice? - Question

I've owned 3 gibsons and while all of them were/are awesome guitars (blueshawk, faded sg & les paul) -- NONE of them hold a candle in terms of playability/comfort to my 2610.

With that said, my 2610 is limited to only metal with the single EMG 81 pick-up. But considering I'm interested in playing metal exclusively, it's not much of an issue. I'll keep the sg with the jazz+jb set-up and consider my bases covered.

The les paul, however, is nothing more than a paper-weight. The problem with any Gibson with humbuckers is that the stock Gibson pick-ups are terrible. They *have* to be replaced. So even if you shell out $1,000+ for a nice Les Paul, you're going to have to spend $150 to get it set-up properly.

With my Ibanez & SG set-up and ready to rock, the Les Paul will sit forever. Until I sale or trade it. It's definitely a nice guitar but the 23.75 scale length sucks and the weight of a les paul is obnoxiouuuus.
