Which is worth more, original ATD UV or the UV77RE?

I'm watching the UV77RE threads with great interest, the guitars are stunning. Curious about something though. I know that it is impossible, but suppose that there is an original ATD UV77MC and a new UV77RE with identical swirls and in identical condition. Is one worth more than the other or are they be on par with each other for the most part? Seems to me that the prices on the original have jumped with the issuance of the new ones. I'm not asking what they are worth, just wondering about the pricing relationships between the two.

I deal in collectible Toys, and the one thing I know, is that in the end if you have 2 identical items in mint condition, but one is a re issue, the original is always going to be worth more. No two ways about it, the original carries history and you cant beat that...

If I had a choice of 2 identical in front of me, both same condition, I would go for the original...

I'm just waiting for the replies like
1) No two swirl will ever be identical
and the ever famous
2)it's worth whatever someone will pay for it.

Nobody will ever be able to compare pricing this way. The RE's are far superior instruments made by a little custom shop in a very limited edition, crafted from superior materials, dipped with far greater care than the original run of many many more, and are anniversary models.

The originals are 20 year old guitars, most of which have several playability issues, and the cleaner they are the more chance they have neck problems from sitting in a case unadjusted for decades.

I dunno, my UV is 20 years old, and it sounds/functions great. It's not swirled, doesn't have a bubinga stripe, and it ain't no case queen! Totally worth the $900 I dropped on it! Having an original edge 7 makes it special to me as well.

If I could change something on it, I'd get a new, non-scalloped neck with luma green disappearing pyramids!

Definitely an interesting assessment. The originals have the "original" factor going for them but from what I've seen, the RE's are a far superior instrument.

Most of the original ATD's (or MKR's) don't impress me much, but I've seen a number of absolutely stunning RE's. I'd personally take an RE over the original.

Old guitars with a scarf joint are hit and miss in how good the neck is. Add the fact UV's have the shortest frets Ibanez ever used and there's not much room for neck issues. Just because yours doesn't does not mean a large percentage don't [assuming yours doesn't, most of these will go undiagnosed but less than astute owners]

The gist of my post was that I'm satisfied with my original UV, and I meant no disrespection to the new UV, that price is too much for me to justify refined equipment. I would LOVE to own one purely from a collector's standpoint.

Re: Which is worth more, original ATD UV or the UV77RE?

I like the swirls on the RE's better than original ATD's. Some of the RE's I have seen are simply awesome. I'd much rather have a RE than an original, and I would be willing to pay more for a reissue. So to me, the RE is worth more, but from a general standpoint Im not sure.

Re: Which is worth more, original ATD UV or the UV77RE?

The new swirls are pretty awesome eye candy but I think my heart lies with the originals. It has something to do with them being leaders and not followers, although this could be a rare case where the sequel is equally as, if not more successful than the original.
