Would this be a crime? - to desecrate the UV777BK?

OK, here's the thing, I've got my UV777BK right? it's a 2000 model, absolute dead mint, I've hardly played it. *It plays nice enough (though I much prefer the old UV's like my pink one) but I don't like how it looks. *I don't like the neck as much, and personally, I really don't like most bound electric guitars. *So why the hell did I get it? *Well, if you remember last year, all my guitars got scooped, so this was the insurance replacement for my UV7BK. *It was the only available UV so it's what I got. *Anyway, I am looking at it thinking I should sell it, but I want another 7 string, and it's not that I hate how it plays, I just don't like black guitars. *So, how sacred is the UV777BK (considering there is like a bazillion of them out there)? * Could I refinish it? or would that be considered bad? *Not that I'm really all that concerned about whether or not people think it would be wrong, but what do you think?

And no bloody swirl, I'm not gonna solve all my problems by just letting you graciously "take my problem away from me" *LOL

Jeremy

Well, there goes my idea, and my first UV. lol j/k *Well, I think refinishing it is a good idea, but what do you have planned for the inlay in the body? *Maybe get the body swirled if possible. *Or, if not that, try doing something similar to your SK, but make it the UV777DY. *A desert yellow UV would look cool next to that pink one. *Very nice.

I'll recommend that you go ahead. As you say, there is a bazillion of them out there. So if you're not happy with the looks it has today, go ahead and give it a makeover.

Ok, how bout wait till the new JEM is out and make a UV of that. *lol *I think blue would be a cool color for a UV. *Y'know a darkish, Navy Blue, with a blue mirror pickguard...

If you do a refin on it, you are going to have issues with the binding. *I am not familiar with how to get around it, but I would imagine that it would be a royal pain.

If you could, it would be very cool to just have it raw, like bad horsie. *Or maybe cap it with a nice veneer of *quilted maple and finish it in a nice warm amber and reapply the binding around that. *You would need to put a veneer on the headstock too, of course. *It would be a nice touch to have the pyramid below the trem show through by cutting your veneer and then tapering it gradually to the original top so it appears recessed. *The first UV777PQM (Pyramid Quilted Maple).

Here is an email between Darren and I about swirling a UV777BK.

Me= Darren ,
* * *Is their anyway that you could swirl a UV777BK yet keep the binding that is around the body?
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Thanks,
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Bob

Darren= *Hello Bob
yes I can do that but it is and extra 125.00 . It is a real pain to tape all of it off and then work around it when clearing . But to answer your question yes we can do it for you . your other option is to go right over it with the swirl and it will be fine either wat it can be done
thanks for the interest

Nah, it's not sacrilige to refinish it! In fact it could be quite cool to do! Just think up a weird and wonderfull finish to complement your collection and go with it. There must be a colour combination you've always wanted to see on a jem but never did...

No, I don't think it would be a crime to refinish your UV, because after all, it's your guitar.

What about selling it and looking for an older model to replace the one you had, it might be cheaper. Also, if you hardly play it, would you play it more if it looked diffrerent?
