would this be the place to post a jem project?

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. I have searched the forum menus and not found a specific place for project builds. I am working on a self built DSY Jem and would like to share. Is this the place for such a thing?

It depends on what the build is--this is the Jem/UV section.
Just look thru the sub forums to see which one is better suited for your build.

Re: would this be the place to post a jem project?

thank you for the links. I did notice that they are both links to different forums though and not jemsite forums. What I am building is basically a DSY jem. The body is from perle guitars I believe, it was given to me by a friend from work. the neck is from a Korean RG220B. I am on a modest budget so I cannot afford an edge trem or evo pickups right now but am doing the best I can with it.

Absolutely this is the place bud. I know I posted the hell out of my build in here and no one complained about it. Go for it, I love watching people's builds.

Re: would this be the place to post a jem project?

WooHoo, 10 posts

A friend from work moved to Iowa for another career opportunity and in parting, he gave me two project guitars he had laying around going nowhere. On the left is an RG220B with a neck I know nothing about that has a cool dragon inlay over the whole fret board. On the right is a swirled jem body from pearl guitars I believe and the neck from the RG220. The 220 has a dimarzio Norton in the bridge and needs a lock nut installed. I will post more if that one in another thread after the jem project is done. The swirl on the jem is ugly to my taste, no offence to the artist, I just donít like the colors and will be sanding it all off.

Re: would this be the place to post a jem project?

So I have sanded off the swirl and got carried away a bit. I did not take any picks of what happened next. This body was rear route but it is going to be loaded with a pre wired pick guard so I have converted it to a top route. First thing I did was cut out the front where the controls mount in the shape of the control cavity. Then I made a control cover from poplar craft board I had laying around and glued it in. Then cut channels for the wiring between the pickup cavities.

Re: would this be the place to post a jem project?

If you noticed the dates on the previous pics you know I started this project a month ago. I will try to bring you up to speed in as few posts as possible.

After sealer and primer I was having allot of trouble getting the loaded pick guard to fit right so I carved it all out like so.

It fits just fine now.

hear are some pics of the neck. I scalloped the last four frets and partialy scalloped a few more just for the hell of it. I sanded the black laminate completely off to bare wood. Sealed, primered and painted flourecent yellow. Yes I know that the decals are cheap but they are removable.

Here is the paint progresion, Painted flourecent yellow, painted trem rout hot pink (no tape), wet sanded pink off while sanding the yellow smooth, removed tape and applied the first few coats of lacquer.
