1970's B.C. Rich Mockingbird Refinishing

Hey all,

So I just got my hands on a late 70's N.J. series Mockingbird, and I'm currently working on refinishing it for a friend. When I got it, it had stickers all over the body, and paint was peeling off at my fingers. So, obviously I am going to re-paint it as well, however the headstock has a B.C. rich inlay with N.J. written underneath in gold. What I'm wondering is, how could I pain the headstock without covering the inlay? Would I actually have to use tape? because that would be insane. lol. Its not exactly the simplest inlay shape. Also, would anybody here have any idea of how much a late 70's NJ series Mockingbird is worth? I would look up the serial number...but the guy scratched it off ages ago apparently.....yay...

Tape it off, or just dont paint the headstock.
