1982 Ibanez Blazer

Hey there,

This is my first Ibanez from before 1987 and non Jem, UV or RG. I got it a few days ago. She´s in great condition, 100% stock and ready to rock and roll. Its a red Blazer series from 1982. I didn´t expect much from this guitar, but I really like it. It is well constructed and the touch and feeling is better than what I thought. I like this guitar!

Re: 1982 Ibanez Blazer

This was also my first Ibanez. The Blazers outdid the Fender strats at the time and these and many other Japanese guitars forced Fender to reconsider, up stats, lower price and come out with the American Standard Stratocaster just a few years later.

Your model, 500 series, had either a phase or coil tap, where the 550 had two mini switches with both. They followed up with the Roadstar which eventually morphed into our flagship RG model.

Thanks 63Blazer. I believe my guitar is a BL450BY model. It has 1 mini-switch located right next to the input Jack, which I believe its a phase switch. This guitar is 100% original

I had the 550s with the two switches but one of the two mini toggle switches had tones that were too tinny/quacky so I never used them. I miss my Blazers and they were better than any of my many Fenders, save one pre-CBS built one which was as good, but way different being a tele.

Nice! I haven't seen one so minty. Hope to add one to my stable one day.

How do you like the pups? Afaik, they have steel poles with a ceramic mag glued underneath them. Only thing I'm not a fan of with these is the scratchplate mounted jack but it ain't a deal-breaker.

Great Blazer Eb!!

I've always had a fondness for these. Very few people realize how great of players these guitars actually are. Ibanez pulled out all of the stops on these. It shows when you play one. Sadly, The "modern" RG really turned these and the Roadstars into forgotten misfits.

I still love playing my '86 RG410 which has more in common with your Blazer than it does a modern RG. NONE of my other guitars have the "depth" of tone that my 410 has.

^^ Yes, I prefer these older ones to the modern RG invariably. Can affirm the coolness of the 410 as well , not to mention the Proline models, which are quite special, imo.
