1987 RG100 Roadstar Series (any info?)

I was so impressed PWSUSI's VM1 project that I decided I want to make one also, so I picked up a roadstar fairly cheap, and instead of the 80's roadstar head stock it was the first year it changed to the traditional Ibanez headstock we know today (which is what is on the VM1), also I didn't notice until after I bought it, that the body contours (the horns mainly) are thinner that the roadstar. (that part isn't on a VM1, but I'm still going forward with it)

This guitar appears to be the transistion of the Roadstar evolving into the RG series guitar. The body contours match RG, but curved edges. It is made in Korea and the serial number is in the form P7000xxx.

This picture is not my guitar (since its black and I havent received it yet) but one like it.

I almost don't want to modify/paint it since from a historical standpoint these are the evolution of the RG. But, if it's just worth the $165 I got it for, then I will. I just can't seem to find this guitar in any catalog or much about it.

My guess is that $165 is about what's it's worth. It was a cheap Korean guitar and I don't know if it ever appeared in the catalogs. I'm not sure that it's a part of the evolution of the RG so much as it's a relic from a time where Ibanez was transitioning from the "Roadstar" series and the "Proline" series to the RG and the 540S/R/P guitars. 1987 was also the year of the JEM and the RG550, so this is not some evolutionary missing link between the old Roadstars and the modern RG shape.

Well, I just got mine in today, I can see be back parts of it but nothing a little setup couldn't fix. I'm move forward with the project now and should be a decent guitar when finished, just wish the neck had jumbo frets. This neck can always be upgraded, the majority of this project will focus only be body anyway.

Thanks for the info

WAIT DAVE!!!!

Don't do anything with it other than maybe selling it. I just picked up an '86 RG440 that's PERFECT for a VM1 project. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but in all honesty, I don't have the time or money to do it. If your interested, let me know.

My old '86 RG110 was MIJ and a pretty nice guitar, aside from no locking nut and typical tuning issues if you used the tremolo. It had only one Super 70 humbucker with a coil tap on the tone pot, but was a great playing and sounding guitar. Until I butchered it up trying to make it better ... lol. Let me know if you need a pristine tremolo & arm like the one in the pic above (Power-Rocker?), I saved it all these years.

Thanks, but I'm prepared to move forward with the one I got. I dont' want to invest anymore than what I'm doing.
