1987 RG560 - Flame Maple Tops ???

Were there any flame maple tops or translucent finishes on 1987 RG560's?

Here's why I ask, just bought this, haven't seen it in person, advertised as semi transparent:

Re: 1987 RG560 - Flame Maple Tops ???

I do not believe these were introduced in 1987, but a look on the serial number behind the headstock (if the neck is the original one) will tell you for sure. If it is F7* is 1987, F8* 1988, F9*1989, F0* 1990 and so on...
Enjoy your new guitar whatever year it is!

It's a 1987 with the original little sticker type serial number: F721933

Well, I still don't know if it's really "flamey" under the finish or that's just an effect in the picture??? The weird part is that it was advertised as semi-transparent and it looks all original. There is a little bit of that effect in the picture of the backside too.

A friend used to have a RG570FM which was exactly like yours (apart from it being H-S-H) i think his was a 1990 model. I believe the body is basswood with maple veneer.

Yep, I have 4 of those, 1 from 1990, 1 from 1991 and 2 from 1994 with gold hardware. I also have a RG770FM from 1990 which is probably my favorite and best playing guitar ever:

I bought one last year... I LOVE it!! I also have the matching
770FMBS in the "brown sunburst". They are great guitars...

Awesome RG !!!! Love the color.

I'm not saying it's so.... but I'd keep open to the possibillity that the body & neck are not original to each other. Regardless that's a really lice looking RG!

More sauce

Keep the pics coming in this thread

I don't know why but I prefer these old RG770FMs to a lot of the fancy J-custons we see these days. I'd bet they're probably rarer too

Re: 1987 RG560 - Flame Maple Tops ???

OK, just got the guitar in. Now it gets really weird. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this in Ibanez-land. Check this out ! It really is semi-transparent and there really is a flame maple top and back. You don't see the flame too much until you get it in some light. Check out these pics, especially the last one outside in the sunlight. I don't know what the hell they were trying to do. It's Lipstick Red but kind of transparent. Anyone seen anything like this? Remember, this is a 1987 RG560, 1st year for the bodystyle.

Re: 1987 RG560 - Flame Maple Tops ???

Just took the neck off. It says : 560MR

The 5 and 6 are hard to see so I contrasted the pic.

Re: 1987 RG560 - Flame Maple Tops ???

And a couple more. You can't read it in the pic but the little sticker above the headstock says RG560 while the stamp on the heal is RG-550R.

The guitar is 100% original. Nothing has been touched, not even the solder on the pots.
