1987 rg560 wood holds memories?

This probably sounds a little moon bat weird idunno how to explain it. In my teens early 20's I played alot, everyday, hours and hours at a time. I had a 1987 Rg560 I played and still have though its full of chipped paint spots from long nights of drunken practice. Now I'm 41 haven't played in 15 years (play like ****). I bought a studio les paul to maybe get me back into it. It was cool for a few days. But I still felt I sounded like ****. I went back to my RG the other night and felt like a GOD!!! I played better more artistic, I still played like crap but not near what I did on the Gibson. I feel like this RG is my soulmate, or the wood has retained the memory of days past when music flowed so freely thru my fingers. This is very weird......

Yeah--welcome to the club! I've found over the years, 27 to be exact, that every time I got a new guitar, amp, or other piece of gear, I play better. If there's a great guitar I haven't touched in a while and go back to it--I play better. As far as good Ibanez guitars go, I'll never part with one. In fact, I just purged all non-Ibbies from my stash. Even an ESP Mirage Deluxe...

+1! A new Alternative 8 in the bridge with two SSL-6 Custom Flat single coils and you'll be in heaven!

Okay but seriously its called muscle memory. Embrace it! Buy more guitars and learn to play on different necks. Then when you pick up the various guitars you'll jump in to different feels and ways of playing.

Re: 1987 rg560 wood holds memories?

i don't have a guitar that last with me for over 10years ++, the oldest one with me now is like 6 years old.
sometimes i miss the day when I only got cheap RG 250 but played a hell out of it.

in my case, i have different use on other guitars. when it's really bored to death, i have no mojo at all to touch the guitars and play, i started with my jackson soloist, and yes i sounds and plays like c r a p .
then, switch to any of my RGs ( any RG no particular of favourite ones), and there you go.. I play and sound better.

i guess RG is just my called home.
no other guitars feel the same.

Re: 1987 rg560 wood holds memories?

i've had a lot of guitars over my relatively short time playing (roughly 8 years) and i play different on almost all of them. my old JDR-94 is my standby guitar, and its closely followed by my RG350DX (but its in dire need of a setup). my jackson V makes me play different, the gibsons that i've played haven't been that impressive, minus the 1978 custom i played at a friend's guitar shop..........that thing was a monster

nothing weird about that story mate.the neck on your rg560 will feel way better than the neck on the les paul.

Re: 1987 rg560 wood holds memories?

I love the feel of the my RG560 neck, the original wizard is the best! and its more than 20 years old now so it has that nice broken in feel. I had a RG350DX and just had to give it up, For 100 less than I paid for the RG350dx used, I picked up this RG560! So nice!

Re: 1987 rg560 wood holds memories?

i own the RG560 as well, it's my first guitar. 40 guitars later, each & every time i revert to my RG560, i felt better playing my first although believably, i thought i played better playing my subsequent darlings- the reason i bought them.

i own Gibson guitars as well, to me it's an Ibanez adversary, the total opposite of what Ibanez represents as an ideal electric guitar. i bought the Gibsons as tools to challenge myself (technically, that is), after getting comfy with Ibanez, it's a challenge to play Les Pauls. however it's a matter of adaptation, if you can play guitar, you can play any guitar.
