Re: 1988 540R Fountain Blue Redo
Well...the trem arm had play in it, it would pull a 16th of an inch before engaging, I took the arm out and saw the worn bushings and thought I would check the underside of the trem to see if everything was tight and such, when I did that I had to take the backplate off and realized that the springs were badly corroded. While I was looking at the trem, I noticed someone tried to tighten one to the trem posts with what looks to be a set of pliers, basically adding a thread to the topside. While digging around I saw that the pickup ring was chipped and that the old INF pickup had seen better days. That got me thinking about everything I needed to do which led to me tearing it all down to nothing so I can clean everything, and I mean everything. I will be taking the tuners off and cleaning the grunge around the topside and I will be sanding the back of the headstock to clean up some scratches, I will probably just buff out the body the best I can but everything else is bing scrutinized. Soooooo, what started out as a bushing change became an all out restoration. I'm going to take my time with it and replace everything little by little. It's worth doing, the guitar plays incredibly well and I love the color.
