1991 Ibanez 540R value and Lo Pro question

I知 going to look at a 1991 Ibanez 540R Blue Burst this weekend. I see some that have high asking prices, this ones not too bad at $600. Seems to be in great shape in pictures, but I知 sure it値l show its age in person. Has a hard case, but I just realized I haven稚 asked if it痴 original. Still seems a bit on the high side. I知 thinking $500, but doubt he goes for that.

Where do you guys place them?

Also does anyone know if the Lo Pro parts now are interchangeable with one from back then?

Well I bought it for $550. The cosmetically it’s in amazing condition for a 91. Looks more like a 2-3 years old instead of 27. No dents or dings, but has a few light scratches. Only problem is that it’s had a major fret level, so the frets are more like a vintage medium than the jumbos that came on it. I don’t detect any weirdness with the neck, but I’m just eyeballing it. The action is low and plays good. Unplugged it sounds better than my other two Ibby’s, but the pickups are to my taste.

Actually ended up being a guitar that sold on Reverb back in June. I saw it come up for sale on memphis Craigslist back around August and missed it. Then this guy put it back up for sale so I guess it’s been on a bit of a journey.

I’ll post some pics later.

Awesome find... great guitars. A while back I found a '91 540S LTD in great shape and I love it, always wanted a 540R though!

I still want the redburst to match my blueburst. They are not easy to find though

Hmm, one picture exceeds my quota by 1.2MB. Have to try something else.

Does anyone see any harm in modifying the pickups and maybe throwing some stainless frets on it? Part of me says it may be collectible one day, but the other part of me says screw that, I wanna play the **** out of it. Throw some sort of med-high gain humbucker in the bridge, and some real single coils. Hard to know how to match up those singles with a humbucker. Maybe an Evo 2 in bridge and evo singles, but wanna make sure the singles do have that chimey bell like sizzle.

I'll ask VS about the file size restrictions as they were mostly removed. I recommend this site for almost lossless resizing

Ibanez non-signature guitars are mostly not collectable and often barely fetch their original price. Do what you want with the axe. The real question is it worth spending $500-700 modifying a $550 guitar?

That’s definitely the question. I really wanted to try out the Radius body and having a neck single coil. I haven’t had it long enough to decide, but I have noticed a couple of negatives.

The radius tends to slide around a bit while sitting down to play. You really have to be mindful of how you sit and position it.

Finding a single coil for a flatter radius neck that has that sweet clean tone that matches well with a mid to high gain humbucker seems to be a challenge as well.

You could Andy timmons it and go with the AT in the bridge with an Air Norton single in the neck, or even a cruiser neck pup. I did that with my old 560 and the balance between the AT1 and Cruiser was pretty good.

Hey dude... I thought about you a couple weeks ago. I was at the local music store to see if the guitar tech had a used D-Activator bridge, they didn't, but he was talking up the AT1 in the guitar he was playing. Sounded good! I remember you liked them too...

A set that I really like is a D-Activator bridge and Air Norton neck... that's what came in the RG3XXv I used to have. Best pickup set I have ever had in a guitar.

If I had the money I'd probably be dumping an AT/AN set into my RG550RF. Right now though, my main concern is my RGR580DW getting Evos dumped in it. I like the Dimarzio SD alright but it seems a tad shrill, even with a slightly toned down treble knob. I cant find the Evo 2 I had laying around, which is what I really wanna use, but oh well.

Guess these will do, lighting in there was apparently terrible. Might try again tonight.

I've been listening to a bunch of clips trying to find right sound. Not sure about the hum cancelling singles.

What types of music did you use the RG3XXV for?
