Question 1992 Rg1200

Greetings all-

I have a completely stock 1992 RG1200 SN F156192 that I have had for several years. No nicks or dings and still plays like a dream. I would rate it a 9/10 as far as condition. However, the p/u switch does need to be cleaned or replaced to elimate a little dirty pot noise. Other than that, it is in near mint condition.

I have been playing a lot of acoustic shows latley and this old Ibanez has spent too long in it's factory case.

I am considering selling it to put more money into my acoustic rig.

Can anyone give me an honest value of such an instrument.

Note: any imperfections are only due to my cheap camera.

Thanks for your input!

I guess this is not the place to ask the question?

Fair enough, I will look elsewhere.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

It's too rare a guitar, and not high end enough to say what it's worth. It's worth more than an RG7xx and less than a Jem. But like I said, they are rare, so they are almost never for sale. Since they aren't as high end as a Jem, the collectability really isn't there. Anything anyone tells you would be a guess (maybe a very good guess, but a guess nonetheless).

That's a very cool guitar (except for the pearl plate). First time I've seen one.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

I think depending on condition it could sell anywhere in the range of used RG5XXs. (edit, I meant 520 or better)

I'd probably pay up to $500 for one, if I wanted a RG1200.

+1 on Jim's post. We really haven't seen too many of them around, so there really is nothing to go by.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

I think it's worth more than a 550. I have never seen a 1200, I would pay more for a rare guitar.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

If GC was selling it for $550, I'd say $500 or a little less would be about right, just because it's rare doesn;t mean it's collectable or worth much (if any) more than a regular RG.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

It all depends on what the buyer is willing to pay. As I said, I would pay a little more for this than your average RG550, which are common as dirt. To a collector, the RG1200 is surely something that's quite desirable. It's slightly better quality than a 550, it has a maple top and full fingerboard and headstock binding, abalone inlays, etc. Pretty cool guitar.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

At the moment, 550's seem to be seeling for more that 705's, which are better guitars (generally speaking). $550 might be good price for a minty one, or it might be high. $550 would be too high for any early 90's RG5xx/RG7xx, unless it was an unplayed 770DX with a maple board.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

Just a thought: The country you're in makes a big difference. Over here in the UK we tend to pay a lot more for stuff. Example, I recently bought an RG3120DR from the USA at a cost of $695. That same guitar sells for around £700 here (about $1,300), and it's lucky to find a red one as it was only released for the American market. Coincidentally, there is one for sale right now on e-Bay UK. Starting bid is £600 ($1,115) and the reserve is not even met.

I would imagine it would be a similar thing with your RG1200. In the USA, that guitar will sell for what I consider a very low price. $500? That's less than £270! In other words, a total steal. The RG3120 I bought was £380. Compare that to the UK price and you'll agree that the country makes a big difference.

Re: 1992 Rg1200

Sweet guitar man. Since it is rare I would say $500 to $800 tops maybe.
