1997 USA Gibson SG

Hi Guys,
My Dad gave me this as a gift and I've been trying to find out some info on them. I've never been a fan of Gibson's that much, but I'm kinda starting to like this one. I had it going through my amp and although it's a little noisy, it actually sounds pretty bad ass!
I'm mainly wanting to know what it might be worth, if it's a cheaper run or not (it's got dot inlays instead of the razor edge style one's), where I can go to see specs etc...
If it's worth doing I'd like to do a bit of restoration job on it, but I don't want to spend too much money polishing a turd if you know what I mean!

Anyway, let me know what you all think!

These are absolutely great! - she's an SG Special from memory - here's the link to the Gibson site:

http://www.gibson.com/Products/Gibso.../SG%20Special/

Still in production - don't mess with her too much - swapping parts and refinishing simply devalues Gibsons, regardless of whether the parts are "better than the originals" or not! All in all a great little rock guitar - lucky you!

Cheers

David

Re: 1997 USA Gibson SG

I was thinking of messing with the pickups as they are fairly rusty. Also one the tone knobs has been replaced with a non-standard one that although it's the same shape - it just doesn't look right.

It's in a bit of a used condition with a couple of scratches on the back and a very small chip out out of the bottom edge. The only bad thing is it's been owned by someone that's obviously played a few gigs with it, but hasn't taken the time to wipe off the sweat etc after a gig. For example - the cotton material that surrounds the pups was black - but on the top where the palm would rest they have turned a corroded white colour.

Have a look at the headstock logo though - see how the dot for the I is up against the G - When I first noticed that I thought my old man might have been ripped off!

Anyway - so any idea of what these might have been worth in Aussie dollars?

Don't mess with it other than maybe replacing that knob. I would also resist the urge to sell it. The older you get the more you will probably grow to appreciate it. Just hold onto it and some day you will be very glad you never sold it.
