1998 rgr470 or 480

Hey guys I'm new to this site and really hoping for some help. A few years back I received a 98 rgr ibanez from Japan with no model number. After tons of research I have narrowed this down to either a rgr 470 or 480. Got this from my cousin who was stationed in Japan while he was in the marines. Its in good condition and I am considering selling it but have no idea how much to ask for or the best way to go about finding someone who can appreciate this guitar and realize its not just some ibanez you could walk into a store in the USA and buy. It is the solid dark blue/black/purple color. I think ibanez calls it midnight something. Shark tooth inlays h s h pups and original edge Floyd rose. Any idea what I can get for this thing? Thank you so much. Feel free to text me if you like 479-445-5685

Host the pictures and give us a link to them. I'm sure some of the Ibanez gurus on this site will help you determine what model it is.

Re: 1998 rgr470 or 480

Welcome to Jemsite! It sounds like you do indeed have a RGR470 or 480 - MIJ reverse headstock RG with sharktooth inlays and HSH pups...I think the only difference between the 470 and the 480 is how the pickups were mounted. In my humble estimation I do believe that your guitar is a fairly rare bird over here in North America...Those are very nice guitars - I wouldn't be selling that baby if I were you but if that's what you plan to do then I can tell you that I saw one on Guitar Museum and the guy said he paid $700 US for it...but I also saw a HC review on a RGR470 and the guy only paid $400...in my humble estimation you should be able to get closer to $700...maybe more...the limited online sales info suggests that they are pretty rare over here so if you find the right buyer you can probably get good money for it...I wish you lived around here cuz I would be very interested in trying that guitar and bpossibly buying it off you...

Re: 1998 rgr470 or 480

Doriangrey I will post pics when I get off work here in about 3 or 4 hours. Guitar is in very good playing condition. Frets and fretboard have very little wear. Only physical damage is one of the studs the Floyd rose locks up against is chipped on one side however it in no way effects playability and also the paint has rubbed off a very fine line on the very edge of the bottom edge where this is a very fine line that is not noticeable other than that no scratches that have removed ain't. My cousin said the guy bought it in Japan on a tour of duty in the marines. He bought it brand new and barely ever played it. I have played it quite a bit and have fond memories with it. I'm no sure I could even sell it as I have friends who are ibanez buffs who have said they have never played one they like as much. Had several offers of 400 but wouldn't even consider selling for that price. There are several guitar shops here I have thought about seeing if they were interested in purchasing it. Again only damage is the stud for the Floyd rose and also the input jack screws have stripped the wood and pulled out so the jack is semi loose however no physical damage am is an easy fix. Thinking of selling it to a guitar shop but would rather sell to someone who can appreciate it for what it is. Shops I have taken it to previously couldn't tell me why it was or even begin to make an offer so I'm wondering what to do.

Included in those pictures are all of the damage. No damage that will effect playability. Bolt is chipped on the floyd rose, a small hairline scratch on the edge of the bottom and the 2 screws are stripped on the input jack. All easy repairs. Just have no idea how to price this to sell it.
