CST has the maple top and ebony board. Same build quality. All the details in the 7-string specs in the Guitars area... glen

The CST has the silkyest feeling board I've ever felt on a 7, the build quality 'might' be the same, but the feel is not.

I don't expect them to feel the same with different fretboard woods

Yeah Glen...and all the USAC's are the same. *There's also not much difference between an RG550 and a JEM77FP. *Well, not really...right?

To quote ToddC: "The CST is quite possibly the best guitar Ibanez has ever built." *
I second that.

Let me be more specific, a CST has the silkyest board I've ever felt on a 6 OR 7 string, any model, any maker.

skip, skip, pop, pop, skip, skip... that's a broken record

We're not talking USACs (made by several shops) or JEMs here... glen

You have a record player? *:-)

While the 2027 is a fine guitar, the CST is just a helluva lot better.

Wow Rich,
* *Although I agree that the RG7CST has a very smooth feel, I can't say it's the silkest fretboard I've EVER felt. I've had a chance to play on two CST for about 2 hours each time and I liked the ebony and the rear treatment.
* *While impressed that this feel came from an Ibanez, I've played on some custom necks that were marble smooth (and without a finish). Probably because they weren't maple/ebony necks. While ebony is a hard wood, I've had the chance to play on a snakewood fretboard. Extremely rare and extremely dense ($300/ bd ft). While price doesn't justify silkyness, the makers intense care in making the fretboard was extremely tedious (you don't want to screw up when you're working on $450 of fretboard). Don't get me wrong Rich, I'm not trying to "one up you". I'm just sharing my experience with silky smooth neck/fretboards like the RG7CST.PLAY ON
