Re: 50's reissue strat

Classic Player '50s?

I played around on one and it is a nice guitar. I don't care for the two post trem, but that is a personal thing. The poly finish is indestructible and the MIM guitars are much better than 10 years ago.

I tend to favor the Highway Ones because of the finish, but some don’t care for the jumbo frets.

Re: 50's reissue strat

I had one but sold it because I felt that 21 frets just didn't cut it (I was new to guitars, so don't ask). But if I could just feel that neck for just one more moment...and the clean tone had a bell-like clarity to it. I would highly recommend one. Looking back, I shouldn't have sold it. But virtuostic shred guitar was constantly on my mind. So I sold it in hopes to get an RG (which I didn't) but got a low-end Cort instead. Damn, am I one stupid bloke.

Re: 50's reissue strat

MIM's have poly finish on the reissues (aka Classic Series), whereas the American Vintage reissues use a nitro-over-poly finish, as opposed to a full nitro finish on, say, a Custom Shop reissue or Thin Skin series.

Poly is just about bulletproof, which is why Fender now use it instead of nitro. Nitro, however, ages quite nicely over time and (if you buy into this) allows the wood to resonate more.

I'm shopping for an American Vintage '62 right now, but have also played the MIM reissues. They are quite nice. Necks can be a bit sticky, though.

Re: 50's reissue strat

Dont overlook the MIJ stuff. The Japanese made stuff is amazing, as is usually the case. And can be got for much cheaper than any USA strat, thats for sure. And the overall quality of the hardware/pickups/build quality is supposed to be far better than the MIM stuff.
