540 Radius - I just played one and......

I absolutely loved it. Probably the best Ibanez I've played in awhile, and this one was well worn, and by that I mean chips, scratches, etc. But the original Edge is like butter, it's so smooth.

Too bad there's nothing like it anymore. The body feels different than the S, and I'm not really a fan of the JS neck.

They're asking $375 for it at the shop, which I think is a bit high. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

By well worn I mean chips, scratches and nicks, but nothing below the surface, nothing down to the wood, and no structural cracks.

I loved it, man it sounds great.

The Ultra neck is awesome for those of us with bigger hands.

I find any kind of Wizard neck just gives me hand cramps and feels too flat in the middle. I don't like playing a neck that feels like a 1x2 in my hand. The Ultra neck is a little beefier but not ridiculously so. And there simply is no more comfortable and natural body shape than the Radius body.

I just finished putting together my 540r LTD and it's so nice The action is so low on the high E string (.54 mm) after I dressed the frets and gave a very slight compound radius to them.

I love this guitar, and I'm not a materialistic kind of person at all. !

Have a look below.

This is the original factory finish, but I polished it pretty hard. It's hard to tell but it's the crimson metalic paint that goes a deep burgundy when you take it inside. Also there are a couple of dings on the edges but they are not noticeable in this pic. *Ding's don't bother me anyway.

I'll refinish it in Chromaflair based paint one of these days but with this axe out of action for a month before yesterday, I couldn't *bear leaving it alone in parts again.

Hmmmm, I need a second Radius now, or maybe I need three, or four, or........

I'd love to buy that Radius for $300-$375, and since it's dinged, have it stripped and swirled. MMMmmmm

Mine ?

Only after my family pry it from my rotting mortal remains, 'cause I'm never selling this one while my heart still beats and my lungs breath air.

no no, not yours. The one I played in the shop near my house yesterday that was selling for $375.

Ah that's a relief ! *clutches at chest* : )

You should buy it if you have the $$$. If your a regular at your local music store perhaps you could ask if they'd knock a bit off the price tag. The fact that it's been "well loved" over the years works in your favour. Perhaps waving $325 cash in their face will get them to surrender ?

Some places just inflate the price hoping someone will not bother to ask if thats the best price they can do.

Actually, it's a consignment piece, so I don't know if the price is workable. Someone said that it has an Ultra neck, not a Wizard, is that true? It sure felt like a Wizard, but then again I've never played an Ultra to know the difference.

If it has dots, it's probably an ultra. *That's how most of the H-H and H-S-S radius models came. *If it has fins, it's a 540LTD (limited), which had a wizard neck. *IIRC, the H-S-H was only offered as a limited (Tony's neck is not original; he got that ultra from some Jemsite cheezball ;-) - it originally had a wizard).

this was a H-S-S with dots, so it must have been an Ultra. It did feel slightly different than what I'm used to, so that's probably it.

Damn, the guitar was awesome. I haven't been this excited about a guitar since, well, a month ago when I got my RG421.

I just returned a white 440R because it wasn't as described. *It was banged up a bit and was sold to me as an excellent condition 540R. *But it WAS a nice player, and had an ultra neck (could use a dressing, though). *Their reserve was $275 (I paid $305), and if they're honest you should be able to snag it for under $250. *It's Japanese made, with an Edge trem. *Really, it's basically a 540R with lesser pups. *But the bridge one was swapped out for a Duncan. *Swap the singles for something better and refin (or not if you don't care) and it could be killer. *I was actually considering that, but my ethics got the better of me. *It should be back on eBay soon. *Let me know if you're interested it that; they have a web site and I'm sure you could buy it outright. *I took a bunch of REAL pics just in case any arbitration was necessary.
